Squidoo: Animoto for fun and traffic

Have you got heaps of digital photos in your camera or
on your computer? Or are you storing boxes or albums
of photos from your trips, holidays or family events?

Well, Animoto now provides a way to have fun
and create traffic for your Squidoo lenses.

The video above was created from photos I took on
a rainforest walk in Brisbane. Animoto
is a superb, easy-to-use technology that can convert
your photos into animated musical videos (now with
text as well). The program uses the latest in
cinematology technology to create your personalized
video.

The program offers a free option or a paid option.
The paid option enables you to produce as many videos
as you choose with no limitation on length (free ones
are limited to 30 seconds). You can also access
the music library with the paid version which is
currently a one-time payment of $30 (or $25
if you join through one of the links on this post
or on my Animoto lens).

The technology is so simple, here's the steps:

1. upload your photos to Animoto
2. add music with a push of a button
3. add text (where desired)
4. press the button and, bingo, a new video

If you don't like the way the animated musical
video comes out, just press the create button again
for a different video.

Then with a press of a button you can upload
your Animoto video to YouTube. The secret is to link
your new video to an appropriate lens when
you upload it to the various video sites
- and you
automatically tap into the current video traffic
explosion. This then becomes a source of viral traffic
as people start sharing your videos across the
social networks.

You can see more detail of how Animoto works
by visiting my Animoto lens where I have more
of my videos:

http://www.squidoo.com/animoto

New Animoto Widget for Squidoo

Squidoo has now joined forces with Animoto to create
a widget that enables you to embed your Animoto
videos in your lenses. Chef Keem, Giant Squid and
Squid Angel, shows you how to add your Animoto video
to your Squidoo lens:
http://www.squidoo.com/add-animoto-video

Animoto Affiliate Program

Animoto has a unique affiliate program. Members who
join through your link, receive a $5 discount on the
annual paid membership fee. As an affiliate, you receive
3 months paid membership free for each person you recruit
to Animoto who takes out a paid membership. For instance,
I paid once in April 2008 but now have a paid
membership to April 2010 because of my paid referrals.

One Week Marketing: affiliate marketing on Squidoo

Well I am having success with PotPieGirl's campaign approach
to Squidoo affiliate marketing.

What I appreciate is the detailed marketing plan which can serve
as an initial guide but also as a reference document for later
review.

It's good to have examples, a mind map to see how it all fits together
and a action guide that helps me keep track of what I have done.

The checklist is also very useful.

I think the transcript of the coaching of a newbie through the process
is great for people starting out with Squidoo or the
One Week Marketing Method.

I wish I had this type of assistance earlier in my online marketing
career. The explanations are so clear and there is encouragement all
the way.

This is a great investment because it is easy to recoup your outlay
and at the same time build a foundation for a potentially substantial
income.

Like anything online, it depends on your willingness to go the extra
mile, follow instructions and stay focused. The roadmap is there,
along with proof of the "pot of gold" at the end.

I strongly recommend this resource for newbies and advanced
internet marketers alike - I know I have learned a lot through
the One Week Marketing Action Plan and continue to use it
as a guide for campaign affiliate marketing on Squidoo.

Here's the One Week Marketing link again:

Pay Per Click:: Top 10 Tips For A Quality Squidoo Landing Page

After viewing Amit's videos, I decided
to create some PPC ads using a Squidoo
lens as a landing page.

The ad with the Squidoo landing page
appeared on the first page of Google
results for 13 of the 15 keywords.

The results for a number of the keywords included listings in
the first position. Often the ads were in the first three positions.

As a result of this experiment, I have developed a number of
ways of increasing the quality of Squidoo PPC landing pages.

The strategies are explained in the following article:
The Top 10 Tips For A Quality Squidoo Landing Page

What I also learned:
1. Under Google AdWords new rules, even if you bid below
the first page "bid estimate", your PPC ads can appear
on the first page of Google results. Previously, your
keyword would be treated as "inactive".

2. Google AdWords appear to rotate the display of PPC
ads. So on the first search, your ad may appear in the
no.1 position, while on the second search, your ad could
be in position 3.

Product of the Week

The PPC Classroom through Amit Mehta has produced
a great new, FREE report that explains the one critical
secret to PPC success:
Three Critical Mistakes You're Probably Making

This report explains why 98% of affiliate marketers fail

I know I have read the report and watched the available

strategies into practice. It's surprising how much Amit

PPC Classroom 2.0 : video interviews with PPC millionaire, Amit Mehta

PPC Classroom 2.0

Anik Singal, CEO of Affiliate Classroom has created three (3)
FREE videos of his interviews with Amit Mehta, super affiliate
and PPC master:
http://www.ppcclassroom.com/affiliate/go?a=3165

Amit went from $20,000 in debt to earning $2,400,000
as a PPC affiliate.

These videos reveal Amit Mehta's PPC strategies step by step
- even the introductory video discloses some of his secrets
that are easy to implement by anyone.

Amit makes a surprising revelation about the value of
MSN and Yahoo pay per click programs - it is not
what you usually hear:
http://www.ppcclassroom.com/affiliate/go?a=3165

Amit Mehta started with $5 just three years ago.

Actually three years ago, he was making
$1,600 a month, in a job he hated and was
$20,000 in DEBT.

Fast forward to today (just 3 years later)...

--> He makes $2.4 MILLION a year...
That's $7,000 a DAY (and is on track to earn more this year)

--> He went from spending $5 a day to nearly
$5,000 a day on PPC (you can learn how he did this!)

--> He works about 4 hours a day (or 6 if he's busy).

--> He outsources MOST of his business!

It's one of the best success stories over the past year.

The best part is that it's a free 30 minute
video that really gives away a lot of secrets and they
have two more coming!

Watch it, you'll be glad you did!
http://www.ppcclassroom.com/affiliate/go?a=3165

These videos introduce Anik Singal's PPC Classroom 2.0
which is soon to be released.

Watch these videos and learn how you can integrate
PPC into your Squidoo marketing.

Squidoo: have you checked your profile lately?

About Me

My blog is:
www.affiliate-marketing-coac...
My Twitter page is:
www.twitter.com/ronpass
My Lensography is:
Lensography: lenses created by Ron Passfield (ronpass)

Squidoo has recently expanded the profile page to provide
very valuable information in terms of marketing yourself and
your Squidoo activities.

Some of the sections included are:
  • about me
  • my favorites
  • my bio
  • check out these lenses
  • all of my lenses (auto-generated in lensrank order)
  • personal lensmaster stats (lenses rated, favorited 0r created)

There is the opportunity to add a host of contact-type links
as well. You can also use a variable "about me" comment
to suit the focus of a particular lens (so there is flexibility built
in as well).

Every time you post a comment in the guestbook of another
lens, your Squidoo username is shown and is hyperlinked to
your profile.

Keeping your profile updated is a great way to maximise
visitor experience and enhance promotion of your Squidoo
lenses, blogs and social marketing activity.

I recently learnt this lesson the hard way. I visited
ezinearticles.com to update my profile page there
(they also have an enhanced profile facility). I discovered
that I still had my two line profile that I created when I joined
Ezinearticles in 2006. So none of my Squidoo activity
was reflected in my profile. In the meantime, 450 people
had visited my profile page...what a lost opportunity!

When you think of it, every lens you create is hyperlinked
to your username/profile, so there are heaps of opportunities
for visitors to click through to find out more about you.

Once you update your profile, you require minimum work
to maintain it.

Dental Marketing Tips: Hayden Dell

If you're a dentist and want to promote your local business
on the internet, you can learn a lot from Hayden Dell's
dental marketing tips and dental marketing articles.

It is rare that you can get quality information about
online marketing for a professional service, let alone
sound advice for marketing of a local professional service
within a specific industry.

Hayden Dell does this for the dentist. If you are interested
in marketing your local dental business, you don't have
to take general marketing advice and apply it to your business.

Hayden does that for you. He brings a knowledge of the
dental industry and internet marketing methods together
in his dental marketing articles.

His dental marketing tips are provided in the language of
the layperson - not too technical and not full of jargon.

The dental marketing information is very well presented
and is clearly stated.

He even concludes his dental marketing tips with useful
"do's" and "don'ts".

Anyone marketing a local business could learn from his
local marketing hints - I know I did and I will put some
of his ideas into practice!

Here's a sample of what Hayden Dell has to offer in terms
of dental marketing advice:

FREE ARTICLE MARKETING RESOURCES

Free Article Writing Software

Article Marketer, the auto-submission service, recently
released free article writing software.

The software does not write the article for you like some
computerized article writing programs. What it does do is
provide you with a fill-in-the-boxes, structured approach
that makes it easy to write for the beginner and the advanced
writer as well.

I have intuitively used the same structure in my article writing
but I found that by using the software I was able to knock off
two articles in quick succession:

Squidoo: Showcase Your Flickr Photos
Squidoo: Showcase a Photographer

The software comes as a zip file and the actual article
writing program is contained in the file, articlewriter.exe

Affiliates of Article Marketer can brand the software so
the zip file also includes images to assist marketing
and a branding tool.

Squidoo Marketing: Showcase a photographer

Photo Credit: Sunset Paddling, Maroochy River by Barbara J H on Flickr

Showcase a Photographer on Squidoo

Photos and videos are all the rage on the Internet - witness
the growth of Flickr, YouTube, MySpace and Facebook.

One way to enter the mainstream is to showcase a
photographer on Squidoo.

You can create a Squidoo lens focused on some aspect of the
photographer's work or their photographs of a particular
location or theme. Find whatever focus best presents the
the distinctive work of the photographer.

There are numerous, superb photographers on Flickr.

Recently, I noticed the stunning photography of Barbara J H
on Flickr when I created my Squidoo lens on Maroochydore.

I approached Barbara and sought her permission to showcase
her photography on a number of Squidoo lenses. I undertook
to make the lenses non-commercial, to donate my lens proceeds
100% to charity and to keep the lenses focused on her photography.

Barbara readily agreed although she had not previously heard of
Squidoo. My challenge then was to find a focus for the first lens -
Barbara has 4,500 photographs on Flickr.

I decided in the first instance to stay with Maroochydore as the
main focus and to create a lens that showed
Maroochydore
through the eyes (and camera lens)
of Barbara J H.

This resulted in the creation of the following lens:
http://www.squidoo.com/BarbaraJH-Maroochydore

One of my challenges in developing this lens was to decide
how best to present Barbara's photography.

Eventually I came up with the idea of making the lens
a photographic art exhibition displayed in
an art gallery
.

So I used a number of different modules to create this
impression:

1. for landscape photos, I used the text/write module
so that I could display full-sized photos to showcase the
perspective involved;

2. for photos focused on flora or fauna, I used the Flickr
module with "thumbnails" to create a montage around a
theme (e.g. flora or fauna).

3. to create introductory notes for each module (as you
would see in an art gallery), I used the "Sticky Note"
widget.

You can see the effect here:
http://www.squidoo.com/BarbaraJH-Maroochydore

To display the landscape photos, I first downloaded them
from Flickr to my computer and then uploaded them
to my website hosted on Hostgator. Then I entered
them in the text/write module using html code that
enabled display of hyperlinked images.

The net result is a walk-through photographic art gallery
with photos grouped around various themes -
Maroochy sunrise, winter in Maroochydore, flora
in Maroochydore, etc. (I started with sunrise photos
and ended with sunsets over Maroochy):
http://www.squidoo.com/BarbaraJH-Maroochydore

Barbara was delighted with this showcase of her work
because it opened up the opportunity for more people
to enjoy her photography and see the beauty of
Maroochydore, her home town.

A fringe benefit is that Barbara has now joined Squidoo
and is showing all her friends the Squidoo lens I created
to showcase her work.

This is just one of numerous applications of Squidoo.

If you want to learn about more applications, check out
the new, free ebook by Seth Godin and Megan Casey -
The Love of Squidoo: The Official Free Recipe Guide

Create a Squidoo Lens Ring

Over the past week I have been refining a strategy that I call
a Squidoo lens ring - a series of interconnected lens linked
to an authority lens on a specific theme.

The central lens serves as an integrating lens while the other
linked lenses cover sub-themes of the authority lens.

One of the first lenses I created drew on blog posts I had made
over a number of years concerning flexible learning and
online learning.

This enabled me to create a primary lens as my authority
site in the area:
http://www.squidoo.com/onlinelearningresources

More recently I have created 5 related lenses drawing on
my blog posts and addressing sub-themes of online learning:

http://www.squidoo.com/mobilelearning
http://www.squidoo.com/digital-storytelling
http://www.squidoo.com/e-portfolios
http://www.squidoo.com/e-assessment
http://www.squidoo.com/educationpodcast

The way I am creating a Squidoo lens ring is to
link
these 6 lenses by:

1. using "lensroll" to connect each of the lenses to the
other 5 lenses

2. creating a "featured lens" module in each lens with
the other 5 lenses listed as featured lenses.

(Note: while this is still a work-in-progress, the overall
strategy is clear)

The basic structure of each lens is as follows:

1. Introduction module (includes a Wikipedia definition
and link where appropriate)

2. Link module (either text link or link plexo)

3. Google blog module (using either "blog" or "news" or
both)

4. YouTube video module (where videos are available)

5. Flickr module (where appropriate)

6. A definitional module (can be a Flickr image)

7. Monetization module (working on this!)

8. Lead capture (text) module (invitation to readers to
join my mailing list and receive my free e-course on
Squidoo marketing strategies).

The strategy of creating a Squidoo lens ring gives readers
more focused information, promotes cross-lens traffic,
provides multiple "landing pages", increases overall
traffic and income potential and builds your profile.
It also contributes to your lensrank.

(Sidenote: This post was catalysed by Susan52's Twitter
comment about her new lens on turning a blog
post into a Squidoo lens:
http://www.squidoo.com/blogging-squidoo

It reminded me that each of these 6 lenses in my Squidoo
lens ring drew on my online learning blog.)

Facebook – Grow Your Network and Net Worth

Mari Smith, mobile internet marketer extraordinaire, has
just released two great products about Facebook.

The first is the excellent, Facebook Fortunes, which
is available via Podclass, a Facebook application:

You can get Facebook Fortunes free when you purchase
Facebook Persuasion Week VIP Recordings Pack:
http://marismith.com/facebookpersuasion/

Mari, true to form, teaches you about Facebook by engaging
you in the Facebook community she has created – her Podclass

her related Facebook Pages. In her Facebook Fortunes,
Mari provides heaps of resources – MP3 recordings, videos and
pdf reports. She also points you to her blog posts about how to
use Twitter in association with Facebook.

I first met Mari on Facebook when she had parked her mobile
home at Yosemite National Park. She is travelling the US and
Canada with her husband and connecting with the rest of the
world as she goes. I wrote to her on Facebook about Squidoo
at the time and her energetic response was:

“Wowee zowie, you're sure the Squidoo expert - I love it!!
I just signed up for your free 7 day ecourse. I look forward to
exploring this most interesting platform.”

Many people talk about social networking in this mobile,
connected world. Mari Smith lives it! From her mobile

and podcasts; hosts periodic teleseminars, and webinars;
develops new products; conducts classes; attends
conferences en-route and engages with the rest of the world
through Facebook, Twitter and You tube. Every day you
know where Mari is via her comments on Twitter, her

AffSphere: Article Directory that PAYS!

Here's an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of
a new and innovative article directory that enables
you to earn both traffic and income.

Anik Singal, creator of Affiliate Classroom, has just
launched his new article directory, AffSphere, which
provides 8 ways to earn income:
http://www.affsphere.com/index.php?r=150

You can get traffic credits for reading and submitting
articles and also share in AdSense income.

AffSphere is in the Beta stage at the moment, so there
are distinct advantages and rewards for being a "first mover".

Yesterday morning I submitted 5 articles to AffSphere
and they were approved within 2 hours (...and some of
them were shown as featured articles).

Here's a great way to boost traffic to your lenses, blogs or
websites. Get in now before Anik launches the directory
with a massive campaign:
http://www.affsphere.com/index.php?r=150

I have watched Anik grow Affiliate Classroom over
the last few years to thousands of members. 35,000 people
read his weekly Affiliate Classroom newsletter. You can be
very sure that the official launch of AffSphere will be huge
...Anik does not do things by halves.

Got to go...to submit more articles to AffShere.

If you do nothing else, check out the video about
the site:
http://www.affsphere.com/index.php?r=150

See you on AffSphere...

Promo Videos: Anatomy of a Lens

I frequently receive inquiries about how to promote affiliate products
on Squidoo. So I have decided to do a series of blog posts that will
provide the "anatomy of a lens" - that is, give a break-down of the
purpose, strategy, content and structure of each lens being discussed.
This will enable readers to apply the same principles and strategies.

Video Promo Lens

Purpose

The purpose of this lens is to promote two affiliate products -
Kevin Riley's Recipe for Quick and Easy Production of
Hot Promo Videos and the related Animoto video production
program.

Introduction Module

Here I introduce the two products as the focus of the lens
and include hyperlinks. Ideally the hyperlinks should appear
"above the fold".

Review Module

This provides a brief review of both products and
shows how they are related. The review can be expanded
over time. Product reviews are frequently identified as
one of the most successful affiliate marketing strategies.
I have found that this is particularly true for Squidoo
affiliate marketing. Your review will have greater credibility
if you can demonstrate how you have successfully used the
affiliate product(s).

The "Easy-to-Use" Module

Increasingly consumers (including internet marketers)
want products/software that are easy to use, quick and
inexpensive. This module translates the video production
process into 4 easy steps. Here I am trying to show the
reader how easy it is to produce their own promo videos
from their still photos.

Illustration Modules

I have developed a number of YouTube modules -
each one dedicated to a separate video promo
created with the help of the promoted products.
These videos show how the products can be used
to create different, themed video productions; how
to link the products to a lens/website/blog; and also
provide evidence that I have actually used the
affiliate products to achieve video promos that are
uploaded to YouTube (thus adding to the credibility
of the product review). These modules in turn have
hyperlinks to the two affiliate products.

Twitter Module

I have employed the recenly added Twitter module
because many of my "tweets" (mini-blog posts)
are related to the Squidoo lenses and video promos
I create. The Twitter module provides an RSS feed
to the lens, thus giving it a regular update (if I post
to Twitter regularly and publish my lens frequently).
The added advantage of the Twitter module is that
it is very personal in orientation and shows that
there is a real person behind the recommendations.

Google Blog Search Module

This provides another source of information for the
reader, adds more keywords for the search engines
and provides another form of RSS feed that updates
the lens regularly.

Subscribe to My e-Course Module

I usually add this module to each of my lenses to
encourage subscribers to my mailing list.

Guestbook

I highly recommend the use of the guestbook module for
each lens - it creates an opportunity for two-way
communication and builds lensrank. You should tailor
the heading to the content of the lens and invite
relevant comments, discussion or debate (I have been
a bit lazy on this at the time of writing - some Squidoo
lensmasters excel at this aspect and get heaps of
comments as I do on my
Squidoo Marketing Strategies lens.

Overall

The modules are deliberately sequenced in the order in
which I want the reader to read the lens.

Twitter: are YOU twittering yet?

Well I've just started to use the program Twitter.com with good effect.

When I first heard of "Twitter", I thought this was some lightweight
social networking site.

"Twitter" is a social networking site with a simple concept that now
carries a lot of pulling power (PR7). Your messages are restricted
to a quick burst of 140 characters and these messages can be seen
by your followers (or the whole community if you so choose).

Your followers are your special group that you can communicate
with in a direct way.

I started to sit up and take notice of Twitter when I began to get
invites from top affiliate marketers to "follow them on Twitter".

To "follow", you just click on the follow button below the name
of the person whose Twitter site you have visited.

Here's my site:
http://www.twitter.com/ronpass

Why not follow me - just click on the link above and join
Twitter if you have not already done so. Then click the
FOLLOW button under my name on the above site.

I got a shock yesterday - three top internet marketers
have started to follow my "twitters" and I am not yet
following theirs.

Here's some great advantages of Twitter:

1. you can add the Twitter widget to your blog -
see the right column on this blog

2. Squidoo now has a Twitter module that you can
add to your lens.

In both these cases, you are able to display your "twitters"
as an RSS feed - leading to constant updating of your blog and/or
Squidoo lens.

Here's my Twitter module on the Squidoo Marketing lens:
http://www.squidoo.com/squidoomarketingstrategies/#module9282301

Another great benefit of Twitter is that the URLs you mention
in your 140 character message are automatically hyperlinked!

You need to use Twitter.com sensibly. If you post a lot of
useless information or spam, people will stop following you
and will no longer get your messages.

Twitter is designed to be a rapid, short messaging system
to let people know what you are up to (similar to the
"what I am doing now" facility on Facebook).

Do not expect everyone that you follow to follow you in
turn ... and do not follow too many people or you will lose focus.

You can even twitter from your cell phone and Twitter
interfaces with Facebook and other social networking sites.

It is a great way to learn what the "experts" are up to and
to get to know something about them personally.

Check out the right-hand column of this blog for my latest
"tweets" and you will begin to see the potential of this social
networking site.

Video Promotions Made Easy

I recently took 26 photos on my walk in the rainforest
on Mt. Glorious in Brisbane. These photos have become
the basis of a new Squidoo lens and animated music video.

Tropical Rainforest Squidoo Lens

With the Squidoo lens, I wanted to create a sense of walking
through the rainforest surrounded by the sights of this timeless
place:

http://www.squidoo.com/tropicalrainforest

Each photo module contains a picture that is 500px (width)
by 375px (height) (which fits perfectly in the module frame).

The process I used to create the photo modules was:

  1. load the photos to a folder on my computer
  2. load the images from the computer to Flickr
  3. click on a photo on Flickr to display the 500X375 image
  4. save the enlarged image to my computer
  5. upload the images to my website
  6. add each image to a module, hyperlinked to my authority lens
The result is a sequence of enlarged images that give you a sense
of walking the path amongst the tropical rainforest plants.

Creating an Animated Music Video

Well, creating the Tropical Rainforest lens was exciting but
developing the animated music video was something else:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5GFirR6mTo

This proved to be a breeze using the latest in video
technology from Animoto:

http://animoto.com/?ref=tzolcekr

(If you use the link, you get discounted access at the rate of
$25 per year for unlimited videos; you can make 30 second
videos for free but then you can’t download them).

The steps here are:

  1. upload images to Animoto.com
  2. identify the two or three images you want to highlight
  3. decide what music track you want (yours or theirs)
  4. press “create video”
  5. upload to your computer and/or YouTube (press a button)
  6. press remix as often as you like to make alternative videos
  7. admire your handywork

Animoto has their own stock of images which you can purchase
or you can use your own photos or free images from other
sources.

I also used Kevin Riley’s 97 page ebook which gives you
a screenshot by screenshot description of how to create
your animated music video. The ebook helps you to identify
appropriate keywords and sources (free and paid) for images
and provides detailed guidance on how to create and upload
your music video:

Recipe for Quick and Easy Production of Hot Promo Videos

(Note: The Animoto affiliate program does not provide income
for the affiliate marketer. What it does do is give your referrals
a $5 discount and extends your "paid" access to video creation
by 3 months per referral. You are also able to load your own
photos to Animoto's stock and earn commissions from the
sale of your photos.)

Squidoo Traffic Tactic 1: Use the Squidoo Fan Club

Squidoo recently introduced the concept of the Fan Club.

If you like the work of a Squidoo Lensmaster you can join
their Fan Club by simply clicking on the Fan Club link
which appears in the upper right hand corner below the
Lensmaster's name.

Be genuine about this but make use of its potential.
Margaret Schaut, a top Lensmaster, has joined the
Fan Club of over 2,000 Lensmasters.

What you have to be aware of is that when you join
someone's Squidoo Fan Club, you will receive
their SquidCasts (see my Squdoo Directory}.

Here's a strategy to quickly join the Fan Club
of many Squidoo Lensmasters.

1. Log in to your Squidoo Dashboard
2. Visit the lens of a prominent Squidoo Lensmaster
3. Join their Fan Club if you have not already done so.
4. Click on the photo of one of their fans
5. Click "join this fanclub" (below their profile)
6. Click "Yes, Continue" or "No Thanks"
7. Repeat (...you can continue where you land).

In the process, you will come across some fantastic
Lensmasters and great lenses. Stop off to visit and
leave a comment (with a link to your lens).
