Wizzley: A Writers' Community Launches

Wizzley, a new writers' community, has been in public launch for just over a week.

There are now over 350 authors and more than 350 original articles.

Wizzley is an article site with the option to add images and video and
other modules to enrich the article content.

There is a strong emphasis on quality with the minimum requirement
of 400 words per article.  The site has inbuilt duplicate content checks
to ensure the originality of the content.

Wizzley is very much a community so members contribute to the
community as well as write articles.  Community contributions are by
way of forum posts, commenting on articles and contributing to
improvements of the site.

The Wizzley community is a dynamic group of writers who respect
each other and collaborate in the process of creating a great site
and building each others confidence and competence as a writer.

Wizzley members can earn revenue from direct affiliate links as well
as from the following income modules:
  • Adsense
  • Amazon
  • Allposters
  • Zazzle
Revenue from these four modules is shared on an impression basis -
50% of impressions will show the author's affiliate ID and the other
50% will show Wizzley's affiliate ID.

You can also earn income from referrals - 10% of the impressions
from referrals' articles will show your affiliate ID's (for life). This
share comes off Wizzley's 50%, not your referral's.

Wizzley's Alexa rank at the time of writing is:
  • US   -   17,511
  • Germany  -  9,418
  • Global   - 135,953

Come and join us at Wizzley - the fun, fast and friendly site for authors.

Internet Marketing Success

One of the things I have talked about recently is the way you can build your Internet business.

It's very much a building process.

You develop one Squidoo lens then another and eventually you can build a lens ring.

You start writing articles and gradually turn them
into a free e-book that enables you to promote your
site or your affiliate products.

"Internet Marketing Success" is a case in point.

Here, I've taken a number of my articles on Internet
marketing and built them into a free e-Book around the
theme of success factors for online marketing.

Use your Chakra energy to develop your Squidoo marketing

The seven Chakras are the hidden energy centers
in your body through which you receive, process
and transmit life energies. They act as
"energy transformers" and influencers of change.

Your thoughts, emotions or actions can either block
or activate these hidden energy centers.

Whether you are writing articles or e-Books,
developing Squidoo lenses or using other Squidoo
marketing strategies, you will experience the ebb
and flow of energy.

It is important to identify the things that block
Chakra energy and the strategies that help
to release energy. In this way you can experience
focused achievement.

The seven Chakras can be identified as follows:

1. Base Chakra – the energy of existence
2. Naval Chakra – the energy of activity
3. Solar Plexus Chakra – the energy of control
4. The Heart Chakra – the energy of community
5. The Throat Chakra – the energy of meaning
6. The Third Eye Chakra – the energy of integration
7. The Crown Chakra – the energy of Spirit

In the following article, I explain each of these
Chakras and identify ways in which we can block them
unconsciously. I discuss strategies that can be used to
tap the energy of each of the seven Chakras:
How to Use Chakra Energies for Squidoo Marketing

While the examples are focused on article writing,
the principles apply to any aspect of
Squidoo Marketing.

Who said you can't write?

I used to believe that I couldn't write too!

I ended up writing a 100.000 word doctoral thesis
in 1996 and a swag of technical articles published in
journals. Since then I have co-edited 2 books, written
four e-books and published 40 online articles on affiliate
marketing and Squidoo.

What's the secret? - START WRITING!

The biggest impediment to developing your
writing skills is INACTION.

The secret is action learning - plan, write, review.

You learn to write by DOING IT!

When my son started Grade 8 at 13 years of age he
was gifted with a female teacher who believed in the
action learning approach to writing.

She started off by insisting that each student write
50 words a day and submit it for review ... and she
provided a range of topics.

At the beginning we had tears and tantrums as my
son asserted that, "I don't know how to write...I
can't do it."

We helped him plan his writing and gave him some
feedback as he finished. The teacher gradually
incremented the number of words required each day.

The more he wrote the easier it got...and the
more independent he became. By the end of the year
he was writing 1,500 words without much difficulty.

It's worth stating that principe again,:
The more you write, the easier it gets!

Where do you start?

Well, I recommend starting with a
Blogger.com blog as I did in 2005 (this blog).
You don't have to locate or add plug-ins, etc. They
are there for you to use if you want to.

The main thing is that your blog is an online journal -
a place to record ideas, insights, opinions, thoughts,
recollections, case studies... and to include links,
resources and references. It's your online data
storage as well because blogs are searchable via
the tags you include below each post. Keep
your audience in mind as you write and you will build
your readership (as well as your credibility).

The steps:

1. decide the focus you want

2. create a blogger.com blog

3. START WRITING

4. Make a post on Twitter.com with the URL
of the blog post.

....rinse and repeat with whatever frequency
you can muster.

Optional:

5. Add the blog RSS feed to your Squidoo lens if you
have one (and the feed will automatically appear on
your Squidoo lens).

WARNING for the perfectionists - don't try
to make every blog post a landmark post. Focus on
an idea or an insight and just get it down.

P.S. The great novelists will tell you that writing
is 95% perspiration and 5% inspiration. They create
a writing routine - and some have been known to tie
themselves to their chair to make sure they persist
with trying to write ... even when nothing seems to
come.

Again, the principle of focused achievement comes
into play.

Squidoo: Focused Achievement

I was reflecting on Pat Rigsby's article, Activity or Achievement,
and thought about taking the theme further.

To me the fundamental issue is a lack of focus, which in turn
exposes us to information overload and the activity trap.

I have found that focusing on a goal and concentrating on
achieving milestones along the way is the fastest and surest
way to income and success.

It takes a hell of a lot of discipline to focus and concentrate
to achieve specific goals - that is why so few people achieve
success and income on the Internet.

If you become unfocused your brain becomes "scattered"
and your energy is dissipated. You can become like a
cork tossed in the sea of information.

Focus gives you an anchor and the strength to concentrate
and withstand the constant buffeting that will come your way.

I discovered Squidoo in early 2007, and immediately saw its
potential. I decided then and there to develop a specialised
expertise in Squidoo. I realised that the Squidoo platform
enabled me to do all the things I love doing - be creative, learn
daily, write, explore resources, share information and expertise,
build networks and coach/mentor others.

It also built on the work I had done before - blogging, affiliate
marketing, email marketing and article writing.

So my focused achievement was to build expertise in Squidoo
and use this achievement to educate, build networks and grow
my affiliate income.

So this focused achievement is reflected in my Giant Squid
status, Top 100 Squidoo Lensmaster and the development of a
range of innovative Squidoo lenses.

My focus now is to educate others on how to build their own
authority status and to use that to build their affiliate income.

I have been very impressed with the work of PotPieGirl,
Giant Squid, in showing how to build affiliate income through
focused achievement. Her One Week Marketing Plan
is a prime example of focused achievement on a week by
week basis using Squidoo.

PotPieGirl (Jennifer) has demonstrated how a focus on
achieving weekly goals rapidly builds a sizable monthly
income. She shows how she went from a frustrated,
overworked Mum to earning over $150,000 per year as
an affiliate marketer using free methods such as Squidoo.

To follow her detailed plan of action, you have to be focused
but results are assured. I used her One Week Marketing
approach to promote her own product and have made over $300
to date from this one product.

So whatever you decide to do, focused achievement is the
route to success. Ask yourself each day, "What is the most
important thing for me to concentrate on at the moment if
I am to achieve what I set out to achieve?"

Squidoo: targeting the first page of Google for mutiple keywords

I have written previously about the benefits of Squidoo
in terms of deep indexing of Squidoo lenses by Google.
I have also identified strategies to encourage this deep
indexing.

What I want to address here are ways to broaden your
Google presence by expanding the keywords that you
target. These strategies have enabled me to get on the
first page of Google for multiple keywords for the one
Squidoo lens.

After you have established a presence on Google for
your primary keyword, you can target other selected
keywords one at a time. You may even choose to
target keywords that have a higher search volume
than your primary keyword. I have done this
successfully in the past.

So here is the basic strategy:

1. Use your new targeted keyword as your anchor text
for hyperlinks in blog comments, Squidoo lens comments,
etc.

2. Write blog posts incorporating your targeted keyword
and use the following format as the title for your post:
Targeted Keyword: rest of post title
(e.g. Golden Retriever Dog Training: the benefits of
the crate method)

3. Write and publish articles incorporating your
targeted keyword and have a title similar to the one
above:
Targeted keyword: rest of article title
(e.g. Golden Retriever Dog Training: taming the
retriever instinct)

I adopted the above strategy when I discovered
that my lens did not appear in the first 100 pages
of results for an important keyword. Now 5 0f the
top 10 ten results for this keyword are my links
- my Squidoo lens, blog posts or articles.

P.S. For info on Golden Retriever Dog Training

Article Writing: Massive Action for Massive Results

The more I read and hear about internet marketing
and affiliate marketing, the more I'm convinced
that real results come only with massive,
focused action.

I was reading Ewen Chia's FREE Super
Affiliate Blueprint
the other day and noted that
massive action is one of the key things that separate
the super affiliate marketers from you and me.

I recalled then that this certainly seems to
be a defining difference between those who achieve
substantial affiliate income and those who don't.

I was reminded of what I had read over the past year:
* the top bloggers blog three or four times a day
* the top Squidoo Lensmasters have over 100 lenses
* the top free ad experts submit to 100,000+ sites
* the top Adsense earners have 1,000 Adsense sites
* the top safelist earners submit to 60 safelists every day
* the top forum earners write 10 posts daily in forums
* the top social bookmarketers submit to 100's of sites daily
* the top viral ebook marketers produce 100's of ebooks

In the area of article marketing, the message is the same.
My friend, Jinger Jarrett, has had over 1,000,000 views
of her articles - numerous articles promoted in
numerous ways. The top article writers on
Ezinearticles.com produce over 3,000 articles.

On my morning walk today I listened to a conference call
by Maria Marsala, one of the pioneers of article
marketing she indicated that she used to submit to
400 article directories before she found
Article Marketer.
(Note: If you want a free lesson on how to
produce lots of articles fast, listen to her call here.)

Maria, and top affiliate marketers like
Tinu Abayomi-Paul, now use Article Marketer to
automatically submit their articles to thousands of
of websites and hundreds of directories.

I have just taken out a quarterly subscription to
Article Marketer (currently at a heavy discount).
This now allows me to submit unlimited articles
which in turn are auto-submitted to thousands
of websites. All I do is enter the article
information once - title, description, body,
category, keywords and resource box.
The program, Article Marketer, then does
the submission to multiple sites.

I purchased the quarterly membership because
I decided that I would take massive action on
two fronts this year:
1. article marketing
2. Squidoo (aim: 100 lenses)

I can link the articles to my lenses (promoting
my ecourses and my affiliate products/programs).
The traffic from the articles builds my lensrank,
my list, my Google ranking and my affiliate income.
There is certainly synergy in focusing on both
article marketing and Squidoo.

P.S. Don't forget the special discount at
Article Marketer ends soon. They'll even write
an article for you for free as a part of the deal.

Article Submission for Backlinks and Traffic

Everyday I receive reinforcement of the value of submitting
articles to Article Directories to create traffic, build my profile,
build my lensrank and PR and build my list.

It's a great list of benefits for a small amount of effort.
Even if you can't write articles, or don't want to spend time
writing them, you can access other people who will do it
for you. I'll show you how to do this easily and cheaply at the
end of this post.

The primary focus of this post is on how and
where to submit your articles.

Preparing your articles for submission

The process I use is to create the article in Microsoft Word
and then submit it in the first instance to EzineArticles.com

Some people suggest using NotePad because some symbols
used in Microsoft Word (e.g. "inverted commas") do not
convert well to the article directory databases. However, I
have a personal preference for Microsoft Word because it
is more user friendly and you can spell-check your article.

It is important not to use "hard returns" at the end of
lines- only use these at the end of paragraphs. When
writing an article on MsWord I also write the title,
summary or description and identify the keywords. This
makes cut and paste so much easier when you are
submitting your article.

I always submit my articles to EzineArticles .com in the
first instance. I know that once it is accepted there, it will
be accepted elsewhere. Also once the article is published by
EzineArticles.com, I find that I can just cut and paste from
their site to submit to other article directories and do so
without any format problems.

Where to submit articles

EzineArticles .com (PR6) is the king of article directories.
I have often found that an article published in
EzineArtilces.com will appear in the Top 10 Google results
for my keyword in a matter of days.

The downside is that this directory has human editors
who accept or reject your article or make recommendations
for changes. A lot of the other lesser directories use
computerised editing so their standards are not as strict.
However, if you follow the editorial guidelines with
EzineArticles.com you should have your article accepted.

Two key guidelines for this directory are:
- no pure promotion, article must be informative
(a common guideline)
- no direct affiliate links (this will vary with the directory)

The upside of EzineArticles.com is the extensive resource
base, their professionalism, search engine pulling power, their
html editor for bolding, etc, an RSS feed for your articles
(and articles by theme) and their Platinum level membership.

Once you have 10 articles submitted and accepted, you gain
Platinum membership which means you can submit as many
articles as you want and get priority editing and acceptance
(usually within two days ...and they stick by this!).

Other recommended article directories:

* GoArticles.com (PR 3) - allows direct affiliate links

* Searchwarp.com (PR3) - you can also submit your website

* ArticleCity.com (PR6)

* Marketing-seek.com (PR4)

Free article submitter

This is a professional article submitter that enables you to
auto-submit to 110 article directories. Write articles, link
them to your lens and then submit to directories...and watch
page 1 of Google for your keyword. Here's the link:
http://www.articlesubmitter.squidoomarketingstrategies.com/

Keeping track of article submissions

I use a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet to keep track of article
directories, usernames and passwords and submission dates
for each article.

Unlike EzineArticles.com, some article directories drop your
articles after a period of inactivity. You need to check
the article directories regularly to see how your articles are
going and which ones are attracting the most traffic.

Leverage Your Writing and Google Ranking

Squidoo Affiliate Marketing:
How to Leverage
Your Writing and Achieve
Quick Google Indexing and a Top Position

Here I discuss a Product Review approach I used in
the last few days and the speedy results achieved.

Friday

1. Wrote an article on the Niche Video Site Builder in
the form of an explanation of the basic steps involved.

2. Submitted article to GoArticles.com (with
affiliate link in bio):
Video Sites: Create Your Own Niche Video Site

Saturday

3. Carved up the article into modules to create
a product review Squidoo lens which I published:
http://www.squidoo.com/reviewnichevideositebuilder

4. Submitted the lens URL to 300 search engines using
Ineedhits Easy Submit Service ($2.99)

5. Posted the article to my blog

6. Received $33.50 commission (50%) for the sale of
one copy of Niche Video Site Builder (affiliate program
available to purchasers only)

Sunday

7. Submitted article to Ezinearticles.com with Squidoo
lens link in author bio (no direct affiliate links allowed):
Video Sites: 6 Simple Steps to Create Your Own Niche Video Site

8. Google indexed my Squidoo lens and gave it
position No. 2 in the search results for my keyword.
(that's one day after submission!)

9. Updated and pinged my product review lens.

Monday

10. My lens achieved No. 1 position in Google.

This strategy can be easily copied and used by you to
promote any product or service. You are better placed
if you can write your review honestly as a user.

Note: When I publish this post it will appear
simultaneously on my affiliate marketing lens and in
my Facebook as an RSS feed and in BlogRush as a
text link ad in hundreds of blogs .

* This was my second sale - so I now have a script for
free that will enable me to create unlimited video sites.

Squidoo Affiliate Marketing - Article Writing (3)

The Resource Box

The article resource box is the most critical part of your article.

This is where you make your pitch for your yourself and your
website. It's also where you create a call to action.

Article writing and publishing is an exchange process - you share
some of your knowledge and experience in the body of the article
in exchange for the right to make a pitch at the end.

The resource box is important also because this is the only
place that many article directories will let you place a URL link.

Your goals in creating a resource box should be:
  1. establish or reinforce your internet profile
  2. build your credibility in the topic area involved
  3. capture subscribers to your list
  4. encourage visitors to your website, blog or Squidoo lens

WHAT TO INCLUDE

Your resource box should include the following:

1. your name - to establish who you are and to build your
internet profile (e.g. Ron Passfield, PhD, affiliate marketing coach)

2. your unique "selling" proposition - why anyone should
read your article, your unique capacity to help/assist the reader
(e.g. "author of an e-book on Squidoo affiliate marketing" ).

3. your Squidoo lens/website address - this creates the link
from the authority site (article directory) to your site and builds
your Google page rank and positioning (and probably your
Lensrank) - note: most well established article directories have
a Google PR rank of 5 or 4.

4. call to action - this is critical. What do you want the reader
to do after reading your article? (e.g. visit Ron's Squidoo lens to
subscribe to his weekly ezine on Squidoo marketing strategies,
tips, hints and resources).

Some further tips on what to include

1. use your articles to create a profile relevant to the topic
(e.g. when I was focusing on affiliate marketing articles, I used the
profile of "affiliate marketing coach", now I tend to write about
Squidoo and use the profile 'Top 100 Squidoo lensmaster"

2. in your article you are selling yourself not a product, program
or piece of software - establish why they should read your article
and follow your call to action.

3. decide what is your primary "call to action" and use only one
call to action but enable other actions (e.g. I now say
"visit my Top 100 Squidoo lens for access to my email course and
.....; but I also include a link to this A.M.C. blog without a call
to action)

4. most articles directories only allow two urls in the resource box
and Ezinearticles.com allows three - use all two or three URLs
as appropriate.

5. make sure your urls are hyperlinked - some article
directories will create the hyperlink for you if you put in the full
url in the resource box; others expect you to create the html
code (check the author guidelines and/or "preview" your article
to see what happens).

6. make sure your resource box is keyword rich (but
don't go overboard into keyword spamming) - think about
the keyword (s) you are targeting.

7. use an anchor text with a keyword other than that
shown
in your url (this gives you two bites of the cherry
as Google picks up the keyword from the url itself), e.g. my
lens is http://www.squidoo.com/squidoomarketingstrategies
- I now use "squidoo affiliate marketing" or "squidoo marketing"
as my anchor text and not "squidoo marketing strategies" -
the result is I now have top ten Google positions for all three
keywords, not just one).

8. make sure the keywords you use are relevant to the
content
of the article (and use variations of them within
the article).

9. where possible add your photo to your article directory
profile - most directories will publish it along with your article
- this helps to build your internet recognition.

THINGS TO AVOID IN THE RESOURCE BOX

1. direct affiliate links - most directories do not allow direct
affiliate links - this is the advantage of Squidoo lenses because
you can direct people to your lens where you have your
affiliate links embedded in your modules.

2. hard sell of a product, program or software - most directories
will not publish your article because it puts readers off.

3. your phone number or email as you will get spammed.

4. multiple links, like every lens you ever created - select what's
best for the article topic.

5. so much text that it takes up 50% of the article - aim for about
15-20% (although some article directories tempt you with a lot
more word space).

6. repeated anchor text with the same keyword - this is treated
as spam - it's better anyway to use variations of your keywords.

Squidoo Affiliate Marketing - Article Writing (2)

The Bum Marketing strategy suggests that you use
articles to target specific keywords that have
high monthly searches but low competition.

I have been using MicroNicheFinder daily to
identify such keywords for my articles, lens tags
and the URLs for my new lenses. This tool
is absolutely invaluable:
MicroNicheFinder for Article Writing and Lens Creation

I have previously reviewed MicroNicheFinder here.

Enough of this rave...but I so rarely come across a
tool that is so useful and opens up so many new avenues.

Through MicroNicheFinder I established that Squidoo
Affiliate Marketing
was a keyword that had a good
number of searches but low competition, so I decided
to target it in my articles.

I already had multiple listings on the first page of Google
for the keywords squidoo marketing strategies
and squidoo marketing.

One of the secrets of article writing is to ensure
that your targeted keyword appears as the first term
in your article title (you also want it in your article
summary and spread throughout your article).

The title is critical - it's what Google looks at first!
The keyword does, however, need to be repeated as
indicated above to convince Google that the article is
really about the title topic.

It may take a bit of mental gymnastics to get your
keyword in the title but believe me it's worth it.

Here's proof - these two articles were written to target
the keyword Squidoo Affiliate Marketing
and submitted on 4 October to Ezinearticles.com:

Squidoo Affiliate Marketing - Use Squidoo to Leverage
Your Writing

Squidoo Affiliate Marketing - Get Multiple Listings
on the First Page of Google Results

Today (20 October) these articles hold nos. 3 & 4 positions
on Google search results for the term Squidoo Affiliate
Marketing
.

In my next post on this topic I will talk about how
to use the resource box to reinforce your keyword rich
title.
