Article Submission for Backlinks and Traffic

Everyday I receive reinforcement of the value of submitting
articles to Article Directories to create traffic, build my profile,
build my lensrank and PR and build my list.

It's a great list of benefits for a small amount of effort.
Even if you can't write articles, or don't want to spend time
writing them, you can access other people who will do it
for you. I'll show you how to do this easily and cheaply at the
end of this post.

The primary focus of this post is on how and
where to submit your articles.

Preparing your articles for submission

The process I use is to create the article in Microsoft Word
and then submit it in the first instance to EzineArticles.com

Some people suggest using NotePad because some symbols
used in Microsoft Word (e.g. "inverted commas") do not
convert well to the article directory databases. However, I
have a personal preference for Microsoft Word because it
is more user friendly and you can spell-check your article.

It is important not to use "hard returns" at the end of
lines- only use these at the end of paragraphs. When
writing an article on MsWord I also write the title,
summary or description and identify the keywords. This
makes cut and paste so much easier when you are
submitting your article.

I always submit my articles to EzineArticles .com in the
first instance. I know that once it is accepted there, it will
be accepted elsewhere. Also once the article is published by
EzineArticles.com, I find that I can just cut and paste from
their site to submit to other article directories and do so
without any format problems.

Where to submit articles

EzineArticles .com (PR6) is the king of article directories.
I have often found that an article published in
EzineArtilces.com will appear in the Top 10 Google results
for my keyword in a matter of days.

The downside is that this directory has human editors
who accept or reject your article or make recommendations
for changes. A lot of the other lesser directories use
computerised editing so their standards are not as strict.
However, if you follow the editorial guidelines with
EzineArticles.com you should have your article accepted.

Two key guidelines for this directory are:
- no pure promotion, article must be informative
(a common guideline)
- no direct affiliate links (this will vary with the directory)

The upside of EzineArticles.com is the extensive resource
base, their professionalism, search engine pulling power, their
html editor for bolding, etc, an RSS feed for your articles
(and articles by theme) and their Platinum level membership.

Once you have 10 articles submitted and accepted, you gain
Platinum membership which means you can submit as many
articles as you want and get priority editing and acceptance
(usually within two days ...and they stick by this!).

Other recommended article directories:

* GoArticles.com (PR 3) - allows direct affiliate links

* Searchwarp.com (PR3) - you can also submit your website

* ArticleCity.com (PR6)

* Marketing-seek.com (PR4)

Free article submitter

This is a professional article submitter that enables you to
auto-submit to 110 article directories. Write articles, link
them to your lens and then submit to directories...and watch
page 1 of Google for your keyword. Here's the link:
http://www.articlesubmitter.squidoomarketingstrategies.com/

Keeping track of article submissions

I use a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet to keep track of article
directories, usernames and passwords and submission dates
for each article.

Unlike EzineArticles.com, some article directories drop your
articles after a period of inactivity. You need to check
the article directories regularly to see how your articles are
going and which ones are attracting the most traffic.

Product of the week - outsource your article writing

Need an article written or a PLR article re-written?
Don't have time to write or don't feel comfortable
writing articles? Well here is a quick, easy and very
affordable outsourcing service that will write articles for
you. I tried it recently (at a cost of about $5 per article)
and I was impressed with the system and the service. I'd
get in now before they raise the price following their
service upgrade to include press releases and sales pages:

The Secret to Online Success - FREE

Alex Jeffreys has released his
118 page FREE ebook that explains
how he built an online income in
excess of $100,000 in 12 months.

Post Launch Profits is really about strategy
- how to build your online business for success.
It's very encouraging, sincere and challenging - it can
nurture you and at the same time take you outside
your comfort zone.

This ebook takes you through the 6 steps that Jeff
took to earn a 6 figure income and set himself up
for a 7 figure income in 2008.

He emphasises simplicity, action and leverage.

If you are planning to launch your own product, there's
heaps here on product launching, creating JV partners
and recruiting affiliates.

Even if you are not planning your own product launch,
there is heaps of common sense about building an online
business.

Besides JV partners and affiliates, Alex stresses the power
of leveraging through increasing traffic conversion,
improving website conversion rates, getting organised,
goal setting and outsourcing.

He emphasises that no matter what your level of
business is you need to get organised (or you will not
be able to get to the next level).

There were 42 comments on his blog about how useful
the information has been. When you see people take
the effort to write long thank you's, you know there is
value in the product (...and it's free!). When you see
people saying, "I am going back to read the ebook a
second and third time...", you know it's full of wisdom:

Alex has a one time offer (OTO) with his free ebook,
and each of the 7 associated bonuses has incredible
value in its own right - I am working through my
bundle now. One of the bonuses from Jeff Dedrick has
audio/video interviews with 25 of the top internet
marketers plus.....

Alex also provides a free affiliate program that pays you
75% of the One Time Offer and heaps of affiliate resources
to assist your promotions.

NOTE: On Alex's affiliate promotion resources page, he
has over 90 social bookmarking sites hyperlinked
for your benefit - why not promote the product this
way and also promote your squidoo lens/blog as well.

From this page alone, you will also learn multiple ways
to increase the traffic to your Squidoo lens/blog. His ebook
also covers traffic generation methods:

Here's some quotable quotes from Alex:

Always look at the positive sside and leverage the opportunity
of your competition by Joint Venturing with them.

I don't work in my business, I work ON my business.

There's no magic hat here folks this does take time.

If you are not already organised at the stage you are at
now, how on earth do you plan on building a 6 or even
7 figure income?

I'm a product of my productivity.

....and at each stage he explains exactly what he did and
how he did it!

The whole ebook echoes what Yarok Starak calls the
"80-20 rule" - concentrating your efforts on the 20% of
things that bring you 80% of the income.

I try to put this principle into practice by asking myself each
day, "What are the two or three things I can do today that
will advance my business goals the most?" As I am only
working part-time on my internet business, I have to be
strategic. Once you start thinking this way, it becomes a habit
...and you get better at it.

Here's to your success in building your online business in 2008
- I know that I will be using this ebook as a blueprint for my
efforts in 2008:

BlogRush Cops Flack!

BlogRush Review

There's a lot of negative comment around the forums
at the moment about BlogRush.

People are saying that BlogRush is not producing the
heaps of traffic that they came to expect.

This is in part due to the hype generated on launch -
but then again I have yet to see a program live up to
its launch hype, whether it be InstantBuzz, Million
Dollar Traffic or some other variation on the traffic
generation theme.

I wonder what we as affiliate marketers have done
to peoples' expectations that they would vehemently
criticise a FREE resource? Have we given too much
away for free in the past and thus created these
unrealistic expectations?

I too am not getting the numbers of traffic from
BlogRush that I came (unrealistically) to expect.
But what I am getting is quality traffic. Give me
one person who lingers on my site, adds me to
their favourites and downloads something, in exchange
for 100 internet butterflies who hover above my site
and, in seconds, fly on in their endless quest for the
golden nectar.

There are many people in forums who are fostering
the negative criticism to promote their own competitive
product. I think it was a sad day when our marketing
switched to employing the shock/falsely critical
approach that is endemic today. It has made "criticism"
into a secondary industry.

This is so inconsistent with the cooperative, genuine
engagement approach of Web 2.0. So too is the total
"sell" orientation of many of the critics of BlogRush.

I think too that we have to acknowledge the consequences
of our own decisions. If we place the BlogRush widget at
the bottom of our right-hand column, then we will not
get as much traffic as if we place it at the top. That's the
the trade-off, but that is our decision and we should happily
bear the consequences.

There is one service that I get from BlogRush
that is
invaluable and that I would even be
prepared
to pay for.

That is the indicator that tells me whether my posts are
hot, warm or cold. This is measured and reported by
BlogRush in terms of the click-through rate relative to
the number of impressions for my individual posts.

How valuable is that for market intelligence? I, for one,
have now identified a series of posts that will generate
a "hot" response. I can re-frame my message to be more
effective. There is clearly a flow-through effect beyond
BlogRush to the recipients of my RSS feed via Web 2.0
sites, the search engines, my Squidoo lenses and my forum
comments. So this one facility alone has immense added
value.

Then there is the benefit that I derive from
identifying
great blogs via BlogRush ads on my
blog.
Some of these I have added to my favourites and
others I have listed as useful resources for readers of my
Squidoo lenses. So the BlogRush advertiser receives a
compounding effect through my exposure of their quality
blog. This is consistent with a Web2.0 approach.

This raises another question - how many of the BlogRush
critics ever genuinely click on the BlogRush ads on their
own sites. If they don't, why do they expect others to click
on their ads?

It takes a sense of community, that sites like Squidoo and
Facebook have engendered, to achieve this sense of mutual
commitment. It also takes a Web2.0 mindset.

The people who are writing negative posts about BlogRush
very frequently preface their remarks or conclude their
comments with a statement to the effect, "I have a lot of
respect/time for John Reese (creator of BlogRush) and
what he has achieved in internet marketing..."

Apparently this respect/time does not extend to allowing
BlogRush time to bed down or grow beyond the
embryonic stage!

I, for one, think that he does deserve this patience given
the service he is providing for FREE.

Squidoo Affiliate Marketing: Post, Publish, Ping

I recently received the following question from a subscriber:
"How do I get more consistent traffic without having to do
specific actions each and every day (pinging, bookmarking, etc)?"

The short answer is you need to do those daily tasks
- post,
publish and ping.

Here's the long answer.

The amount of traffic you will get is a function of a number
of things:
  • Level of interest in your keyword(s) and/or topic area
  • Number of searches conducted for your keyword(s)
  • The level of competition
  • The value of your site to the reader
  • The frequency with which you update
(Re competition: the keyword "internet marketing" brings
up 53 Million results on Google and is controlled by
long standing marketers, some of guru status).

The Law of Attraction works in this arena too.

Repeat visits will come if you offer free and substantial,
expertise relevant to the viewer's goals. They will not
return if your site does not offer value.

I have learnt this through my blog and my main lens.
I get enquiries everday from all over the world and offers
to promote other people's products.

People are starting to refer other people to my blog, my
lenses and my articles. Others are creating links on their
lenses and blogs to my lens/blog. Two top marketers
recently mentioned my blog/lens in their own newsletter/
blog. Still others are seeking me out on FaceBook.

So if you are offering something of value that is timely
and needed by a target market, they will eventually
come to you. But they have to know that you exist.

Both Google (and other search engines) and Squidoo
will naturally give priority to sites that are regularly
updated.

One of my Squidoo lenses had a bug in it
recently preventing me from editing it, and in four
days it dropped from 270 overall to 737!

However, it has now reached no 8 position on Google
(out of 400,000+ results) - by daily updating and
pinging (lens first published on 17/9/07).

The gurus tell us that the marketing power now lies
with the quality authority sites (Wikipedia is but one
major example). One of the top marketers refers to
these authority people as "Top Dogs" - in her words,
those who offer substantial, free expert advice on a
topic.

Jack Humphrey, who I referred to in a recent post
actually claims to have coined the term
"authority site" - he certainly pushes it and his site
is a great example of an authority site.

If you download his Authority Black Book, you gain
access to his special traffic blog and another service
Through the Authority Site Center he will create a
Wordpress blog for you and a header and host
your site.
He uses special software to make your site
a traffic generator.
Plus you get access to a mastermind
group. All this for
around
$97 a month.

I mention this mainly to make a point!

Despite doing all this (using software he developed at a
cost of $1Million), he insists that you post daily...and that
is how you become an authority and develop an
authority site. His software automates the pinging,
submission to social bookmarking sites, RSS feeds, etc.

As you know by now, if you want to post daily, you
have to learn a hell of a lot pretty fast.

So even the very top people with the most sophisticated
traffic generating software in the world insist on daily
updating.

The top bloggers post four or five times daily - that's how
they dominate the search engines and their niches.

You can also buy traffic but it won't be as targeted as
organic search engine or Squidoo traffic (unless you
use something like adwords - at considerable expense).
However, if you do not update daily you can
drop in ranking in both Google and Squidoo.

So the moral of the story is - Post, Publish, Ping...
on a daily basis.

If you find this a challenge, check out my Squidoo marketing
lens for ideas on what to add to your lens:

PRODUCT OF THE WEEK

Submitting your latest blog post to the various Web 2.0
news sites is a powerful method to generate immediate
targeted traffic to your blog or lens. This generates
high-quality traffic and links and builds your authority
status getting you into search engines faster and ranking higher.

The downside - it takes a lot of time to cut and paste your post
title, keywords and description into each site. Here's a way to
save time and get instant traffic - autosubmit to Web 2.0
news sites:

Squidoo Marketing Strategies: The Squidoo-Google Dance

How do you get multiple listings on Google's first page?

You do what I did and create the Squidoo-Google Dance.

This strategy builds on a previous post:
Use Squidoo to Leverage Your Writing

Here are the basic steps for the Squidoo-Google Dance:

1. Create a Squidoo lens on "Your Keyword"

2. Start a blog on "Your Keyword" (or re-focus an existing blog)

3. Write an article on "Your Keyword" with the resource box
linking to your blog AND your lens.

4. Submit your article to article directories.

5. Create links from your Squidoo lens and blog to your article(s).

6. Set up an RSS feed from your blog to your Squidoo lens.

7. Start posting to your blog with "Your Keyword" in your post title.

8. Ping the blog directories for your blog and lens with each post.

So what is happening?

You have created a dynamic interaction (dance)
between your blog, your Squidoo lens and your articles.

  • Your blog and Squidoo lens are being updated simultaneously.
  • Your articles are creating backlinks to your lens and blog.
  • Your blog and Squidoo lens are creating backlinks to your articles.
By PINGING you are inviting Google to join the dance!

P.S. Make sure you have submitted your Squidoo lens and your blog
to the blog directories and search engines.
