The New Blogger

Google is offering most Blogger.com users the option of moving
over to their new Blogger format.

The aim is to have all your accounts under the one user name,
e.g. Adwords, Adsense and Blogger.com blogs.

Once you change over you log in with your agreed Google
username to any of your Google accounts including your blog.

The New Blogger gives you improved functionality in a number
of ways.

Of particular interest is the capacity to change the colour of your
blog ( outside the range provided by the templates) and to
adjust the format of your blog display.

The format facility enables you to change your right column
display in particular. For example, you can change your
archive display, links and profile. You can also add code from
sponsors who pay for text ads on your blog (more on this in
another post). And you can change the footer on the content
column.

WHAT GOOGLE DOES NOT TELL YOU!

Google provides good instructions on how to switch over to the
new format. However, you really have to search to find out how
to access the new format facility.

Once you have converted, your blog (s) are displayed on your
Blogger.com dashboard.

Your display will show the following links for each blog:
post settings template

To access the new format facility you have to click on "template"
and change your template over to the new format. NOTE:
Google warns that you will lose any customisation you have made,
for example, in your link set-up and entries in your right hand
column such as a blog counter.

When you change your blog template over, your dashboard will
then display the following links for the changed blog:
post settings format

The FORMAT link gives you access to the new formatting facilities.

You need to do this for each of your blogs (what a pain!).

However, the new functionality and adaptability is good - have a go!

Blog Marketing : Create a lens at Squidoo

SQUIDOO is a restively new social networking service
that has a strong social conscience.

A percentage of all revenue earned by Squidoo from
advertising goes to charity.

Even better, they share some of the revenue with people
who build lenses. Squidoo puts it this way:
"Build good lenses, feature great stuff, share your lenses
as much as possible, and earn more royalties."

The other side of Squidoo, as with any social networking
site is the value of having your blog or website linked
to a high ranked site - Squidoo was ranked 6/10 by
Google at the time of writing this post.

You can build as many lenses as you want.

Here's a great example of a lens by a former park
ranger who is using one of his lenses to promote
national parks and a book he has recently written:
http://www.squidoo.com/nationalparksandmonuments

You can learn more about Squidoo and help a specific
charity by participating in Dr.Mani's Congenital
Heart Disease Awareness activity on Squidoo:
http://clicks.aweber.com/z/ct/?x6AYCWe6MEgKVUxF_DxaQQ

Dr. Mani is a heart surgeon who is also a top internet
marketer. Every year, since 1999, he has worked to
create a promotion that brings the message about
children facing the challenge of life-threatening heart
birth defects to as wide an audience as possible.

You can participate in his promotion of CHD Awareness Day
by participating in his Squidoo promotion - you get
support to create your first Squidoo lens in the process
and the chance of winning a prize.

Don't Isolate Yourself and Your Blog

Yarow Starak, from the Blog Traffic School, warns against
becoming an Insular Blogger:

I’ve noticed lately my blog is not growing as rapidly as
it did about a year ago. While my posting frequency has
dropped a little I don’t think that’s the main reason
for the reduction in traffic growth.

I believe the culprit is insular blogging. Insular
blogging is when you sit and post content to your blog
never linking to or talking about other bloggers, blogs
or websites. You need to interact with the blogosphere
and other people online in order to grow your traffic
rapidly.

You can have success ...

The Will To Win - Serena Williams

I have been watching the Australian Open with great interest
over the past week or so.

I have been amazed at the will power shown by Serena Williams
- her will power and focus are incredible. She dedicated her
Australian Open win to her late half-sister, Yetunde Price.
Serena was determined to win for her sister and to prove the
critics wrong about her fitness. Her focus did not waver for
a single moment in her 6-1, 6-2 win.

I thought that if only I could match this with my own internet
business, I could go a long way.

When you look at the great internet marketers they have really
focused on some aspect and done it to death, e.g. Perry Marshall
and AdWords, Jim Edwards and article marketing/info products,
Charlie Page and copywriting and so on.

Despite the odds against them at the start they have stuck with
it and developed deep expertise that they are now able to sell.
This has been their competitive advantage.

I think one of the problems with people starting out is that
they jump from one thing to another and then wonder why they
don't progress.

The information overload tends to disperse their energy and
focus and they soon become frustrated.

So the secret seems to be to want something badly, decide
a focus in an area that you are interested in (preferably
a popular niche that is not too crowded) and then maintain
your focus.

Perry Marshall's FREE mp3 interviews

Perry Marshall has just launched a new soft-
covered book on Google Adwords which is available
from Amazon.com here:
http://www.ad-alyzer.com/727/GoogleAdwordsBook

To promote his new book he is releasing mp3
interviews he has conducted with top internet
marketers and giving them away at no cost.

You can get access to the mp3's here:
http://www.perrymarshall.com/expertseries

I have listened to his interviews on Google
Adwords with Jim Edwards and Mark Hendricks.
They are superb with some genuine pearls.
I will be listening to them again because
there is so much in them (and I have already
read a number of books on Google Adwords).

Other interviews coming up are:
Bob Sterling on Search Engine Marketing
Paul Myers on advertising strategies
and also interviews with Bill Glazer, Yanik
Silver, Jason Potash and others.

Don't forget Jim's new book - Ulimate Guide
to Google Adwords- which is 300 pages and
covers all aspects of internet marketing
as well as Google Adwords.

I noticed this morning that Amazon.com has
reduced the price from $24.95 to $16.47 but
I am not sure for how long. Here's the link:

Best wishes for 2007
