Updating can help a lot in lensrank. Especially lower tier lenses in the 50000 for instance can halve their lensrank with a simple update. Unfortunately, the higher you go, the harder the competition. A lens with lensrank 10000 may temporarily move into second tier (say at 5000) but without traffic to sustain it there, will drop to below 10000 again before you know it.
Since payout is, these days, dependent on average lensrank - using only regular updating as a strategy is not going to work. So your advice on marketing is also very necessary.
