In Search of Excellence

Thanks to my recent efforts installing the
Twitter Traffic Machine, I discovered two new
Squidoo resource people who are both, in their own
ways, focusing on excellence.

1. Personal Excellence Tips

Mukunda22, aka Kate Loving Shenk, and nurse of 25 years,
has produced a Squidoo lens on 66 Personal Excellence Tips.
This is a challenging lens offering a lifetime of learning.
If you found just one pertinent tip here and implemented
it, your life would be richer and so would that of the people
you impact.

I found Kate's own tip (No.41) particularly relevant:

Gift of attention. Practicing the gift of
attention offers
the perfect mirror for our
self-centered tendencies.
As we engage in
deep listening, the need to fix or
offer
opinion is recognized in stark contrast
to the
mindful presence arising from the
practice. Thus, these
moments of ego are
allowed to pass without resistance.

This is one of the core themes of the management training
I do within the Health Sector across Queensland. I will
be able to use this quote (attributed) when I conduct
workshops in Rockhampton next week. It's something
I also need to put into practise myself.

2. Squidoo Lens Reviews

Squidoo Lensmaster, GrowWear, aka MiMi GrowWear,
has developed a blog to review Squidoo lenses that
exhibit excellence. Her purpose is "to give shout-outs,
nods and promotion to remarkable Squidoo lenses".

Mimi has also developed a Squidoo lens that discusses
her Blog.

On the blog you will find great resources for Squidoo
Lensmasters - interviews with Giant Squids and links
to Squidoo blogs.

The latest lens she reviews is one about a current global
issue - Swine Flu facts.

These are both great resources if you are in search of
excellence!

Twitter Traffic Machine Review

I've set up my Twitter Traffic Machine with
great results.

Installation was easy with both video and
PDF guidance provided.

The viral traffic system uses free web-based
software to create a steady flow of new,
targeted Twitter followers.

In the last three days I have gained an
additional 300 followers.

I could have grown my Twitter following a lot
more with the Twitter Traffic Machine
but I wanted to limit my followers to selected
people (using specific tags). I could have used
broader terms to get more followers but the
advantage of this system is that you can make
your recruiting very targeted. This way you only
get followers who are interested in the areas that
you want to write and share about.

Now my Twitter follower numbers increase with
each hour of the day.

This gives me a much larger target audience to
share with. It has enabled me to leverage my
blogging and article writing.

I can tap more easily into relevant Twitter conversations
because I have a wider range of contributors to the
themes that I am interested in.

The Twitter Traffic Machine has also enriched my
experience of Twitter. For example, I came across
these two sites and joined the relevant groups:
  1. Squidoo Twibes
  2. Squidoo Marketing

Visbilty: free resources to boost your profile

Visibility Consultant, Nancy Marmolejo, provides
a free action report to help you expand your visibility
and increase your Internet profile:

Why Social Networking: 4 Remarkable
Strategies to Grow Your Business, Expand
Your Referral Network, and
Increase Your Visibility.

Nancy is a Visibility Consultant who offers a
wide range of services to support you to
develop your profile and brand yourself.

Her free resources include podcasts that
are valuable insights into strategies for
developing visibility
.

One has to be impressed with her choice of niche
given the timeliness of "visibility" within the
context of the explosion in social networking.

Nancy's choice of podcasts as a major marketing strategy
lines up with the busyness of her target audience
and serves as an appropriate medium for her
message.

Nancy offers a solid affiliate program for her product
offerings which include coaching and teleclasses.

Some lessons here for product developers and affiliate
marketers:

1. choose a focus that builds on an emergent trend (so
you grow with it)
2. choose a medium that matches the message
3. be mindful of your audience and how they access
information.

How to become a Giant Squid

How to Qualify:

You need to create 50 great Squidoo lenses.

Benefits:

From Megan Casey (Editor in Chief, Squidoo)

"1. Access to our (secret) Giant Squids blog and
RSS feed, full of first-looks at new features and
insider tips.

2. A private email address to reach us about
Lens of the Day submissions.

3. A Giant Squid badge on all your lenses.
(And your bio/profile page too).

4. Gold stars on all your published, featured lenses.
Gold stars not only look nifty to your readers,
they also give you a little LensRank boost.

5. Your shot at making The Giant Squids Top 100
list, a list of the top Giant lenses, sorted by LensRank.

6. A Custom Lens Template tool. This one's BIG.
You can have multiple customized lens templates,
to help you pre-populate new lenses with modules
and copy that you like. Makes making lenses faster.

7. Did we mention first crack at our coolest new tools
and features? For example, the Giants got to hear
about HeyMonkeyBrain, Squidaholic.com,
the new dashboard, the Lensmaster Bio redesign,
MagicBuilder, Prediction module, and lots more
--days before the rest of Squidoo.

8. A chance at being featured on the
Giant Squid Community Showcase.

9. The power to nominate! When it's time for
the next round of new Giants to join the ranks
Giants can nominate the people they think
really deserve it.

10. No daily lens limits. Here's another big one!
You can start as many lenses a day as you want,
and you can have as many unimproved lenses
under construction as you need. We trust you.
We know you're going to build them out eventually.

11. Greenlighting. Have you heard of, or run up
against, our SquidDon't spam filter? It checks lenses
for language and topics that are not welcome on
Squidoo. But quite often, while we're playing it safe,
there are false positives. And that can be
frustrating. So we're greenlighting all our Giants,
so you never get stuck in the spam filter again.

12. Bonnie, Patti and Robin: your Giant Squid
Organizers. Heck yes they're a perk (to quote
Napoleon Dynamite). They're in your corner,
constantly representing and supporting and growing
the Giants program. That might be an intangible,
but it's an important one.

And there are new giant perks being
added all the time!
"

For example, 60 Giant Squids will get to have a
phone hook-up with Seth Godin shortly to discuss
questions and future directions for Squidoo.

There are lots of resources to help you become
a Giant Squid:

Twitter Traffic Machine: Build your profile and your followers

I've resisted buying any Twitter traffic program to date.

What convinced me to purchase Twitter Traffic Machine
was:

1. the very reasonable price
2. the ability to build targeted Twitter followers
(not random followers as with some other programs)
3. the capacity to leverage what I already do
(blogging, building and updating Squidoo lenses
and article marketing).

I think this last point was the real selling point for
me. One hour of time invested in setting the
system up paid immediate dividends with the
first wave of new Twitter followers...and this
recruiting will be ongoing without any
intervention on my part.

What I like is the ability to focus (and re-focus)
my follower recruitment.

I've had to change my original stance of limiting
the number of people I follow. However, this
has given me a richer store of tweets to view.
(I also discovered belatedly that I can view earlier
tweets by just pressing "more" - so I can access
the posts of my favorite people).

The Twitter Traffic Machine is certainly a way to build
your profile and Twitter following on auto-pilot.

You can check out the Twitter recruiting program here:
Twitter Traffic Machine

P.S. Twitter Traffic Machine has a great affiliate program
that is viral in nature and pays 50%.

Internet Marketing Success

One of the things I have talked about recently is the way you can build your Internet business.

It's very much a building process.

You develop one Squidoo lens then another and eventually you can build a lens ring.

You start writing articles and gradually turn them
into a free e-book that enables you to promote your
site or your affiliate products.

"Internet Marketing Success" is a case in point.

Here, I've taken a number of my articles on Internet
marketing and built them into a free e-Book around the
theme of success factors for online marketing.

Squidoo lens: Who are YOU?

When someone visits your Squidoo lens, blog
or website, they are unconsciously asking themselves
a number of questions about you:
  • who are you?
  • what have you got to offer?
  • where is the evidence of your capacity to provide advice?
  • what value can you add to what I am doing?
Elsewhere I have written about the value of building
your Internet profile:
6 Great Reasons To Build Your Internet Profile

More recently I discussed why you should create
an authority site:
7 Top Reasons Why You Should Build an Authority Site

Squidoo provides you with the opportunity to make
a statement about who you are. This comes in the form
of the specialized Squidoo lens, SquidWho:
http://www.squidoo.com/squidwho/hq

You can use this Squidoo lens for a number of purposes
including creating a profile of your favorite person or band.

However, Squidoo encourages you to create a
SquidWho lens about yourself.

My SquidWho lens can be found here:
http://www.squidoo.com/ron-passfield

Seth Godin suggests in his e-Book,
The Joy of Squidoo, that my autobiographical
lens is a good exemplar.

What you can see from my SquidWho lens is that I
readily share who I am, what my passions and interests
are, why I have created particular Squidoo lenses and
what my background is.

For example, it can be seen that my online learning
and mobile learning lenses are based on 5 years
experience facilitating the implementation of
online learning nationally within the vocation and
education sector in Australia.

SquidWho lenses are great fun to develop - Squidoo
automatically creates some of the content for
different modules by searching the Internet for info
about you - blog posts, articles, forum comments, etc.

You very quickly learn what your Internet footprint
is - that is, how much other people are exposed to you
and what you do online.

So when are you going to create your SquidWho
lens
and build your Internet profile?

Combine classified ad syndication with Google Insights for Search

In a previous post I gave an update on the
Google Insights for Search Tool.

This tool enables you to conduct fine-grained
market research for any keyword.

The beauty of Google Insights for Search is the
capacity to identify trends by country or by
region/city within a country.

It also provides data re "top searches" and "rising
searches" down to the city level.

Thus it is a great tool for local internet marketing.

Google Insights for Search does not provide absolute
numbers in terms of search results, but provides
a weighted number as an indication of the strength
of the trend. Trend data from this tool can be
supplemented with the search volume details provided
by the Google Adwords Keyword Tool.

However, the real power of Google Insight for Search
is its ability to enable local internet marketing
via free classified ad sites.

Jinger Jarret has a great free member site with
a free report, audios and 48 hour marketing plan
to help you use free classified ads effectively.

You can check out her free marketing resources here:
Killer Marketing Arsenal

Jinger goes further and provides a
premium membership ($10/month) with
these great benefits:

1. 52 Week Internet Marketing Ecourse

You will start with the simplest techniques, like free
classifieds, and work your way into the more complicated
techniques like search engine optimization.

2. Classified Ads Syndication

Submit unlimited classified ads to the classified ads sites.
Jinger submits your ads to over 200 classified ad sites
including Google Base, Yahoo, MSN, Facebook, MySpace,
Walmart, Local.com and others. This will save you a
huge amount of time in marketing your business, and while
you will be allowed to submit unlimited ads, comparable
systems will cost you $35 - $75 a month and you may
only submit a total of 60 - 125 ads depending on the site
you use.

3. Classified Ad Ecourse

This is a complete step by step course Jinger has written
to help you learn how to market using classifieds, as
well as write classified ads. Includes access to
Terry Dean's Killer Ad Bootcamp, the best course available
for teaching you how to write ads.

If you are serious about using local online marketing,
the Google Insights for Search (GIST), in combination
with Jinger's classfied ads syndication service, will give
you great advertising power.

It will save you heaps of time and money to have your
free classified ads syndicated across 200 advertising sites.

I have taken out the premium membership and found
Jinger's classified ad site easy to work with. I am currently
using it to promote my Squidoo lenses, my e-books and
affiliate products. Jinger's classified ad report shows you
how to make the most of this facility.

For example, I used the GIST tool to isolate a trend for a
particular keyword and then used Jinger's classified ad site
to target my ad to particular cities in Nevada and Florida
that showed up on GIST as having high search volumes
for that keyword.

syndication
service, visit:

How to Squidoo: Top 7 Strategies for Lens Creation

Since the Squidoo platform can be used for any purpose,
the purpose of the Squidoo lens should drive basic design,
choice of modules and images, sequencing of modules
and degree of linkage with other lenses and websites.

This emphasis on purpose is highlighted in my
identification of the top 7 strategies for Squidoo lens
creation.

The key strategies are:

1. Decide the purpose of the Squidoo lens
2. Develop the Squidoo lens concept
3. Create a lens design to meet the purpose and concept
4. Undertake keyword research where appropriate
5. Develop content
6. Source images
7. Revisit, refine, link and promote

New habits can be personally transforming

I used to often find that I would spend two hours
each morning just processing my email.

I would handle enquiries, delete unwanted email
and explore new products, programs and marketing
ideas.

The latter activity would eat up my time as I followed
one link to another...to another...etc.

At the end of two hours, I would be frustrated that
I had not achieved anything and wasted a lot of
potentially productive and creative time and energy
(I'm a morning person).

However, I have since developed the habit of
using my best creative time for writing.

I think about what I want to achieve each day in
terms of output and start with the activity required
to achieve the outcome.

I then fit email processing around the available time
rather than the other way around.

This new habit is bringing me closer to achieving my
current goals.

Gradually, I'm building a routine that is productive
and rewarding (a difficult task given that I'm not
a routine person).

The problem with developing new habits is that
you have to unlearn old habits (which by definition
are "ingrained behaviors").

It's one think to change our beliefs and assumptions
about our daily routine, it's another to get our
behavior to line up with these new insights.

The payoff - new habits that can be personally
transforming and bring you closer to your goals.

Just do it!...take some targeted action

Ken McArthur recently provided a webcast where he
interviewed the dynamic Mary Wilhite and her associates,
Robert Plank & Jason Fladlien.

The webcast was titled:
Learn how a former Chicago Bears
Cheerleader
partnered with two young nerds
who did $160,000
in the last 3 months.

The webcast is a tribute to Mary's energy and enthusiasm
and her colleague's technical abilities.

At the end of the interview Mary commented,
"Every day I took some action towards my goal...
It is necessary to take action...not just read and think.
If you take massive [targeted] action it will take you to
another level." [link and emphasis added]

Ken followed this up with his own comments to the effect
that you should not try to take action on multiple projects
at once. He suggested it's better to have one completed
project bringing in cash than many projects only 90% complete.

He argued that the completed project would then provide the
cash flow for further marketing and product development. The
completed project will also build your confidence.

His advice was to focus on one project at a time.
He strongly supported the idea of a modular approach
to product development

This would then involve serial development of more
complex products. The sequence could be:
. write articles
. build Squidoo lenses
. produce a free e-book/e-mail course from the articles
. build your list via the articles, e-book and squidoo lenses
. produce a paid product, e.g. a comprehensive e-book
. develop some podcasts and/or videos, and then
. build a membership site.

Each action builds towards the next level of achievement.

As you achieve your target, you move onto another level.

Just do it!...take focused action towards targeted
achievements
!

Make life easier with daily blogging

After writing about the importance of blogging
and the 7 reasons to blog, I decided to get my act
together and try to write a blog post every day.

This task appeared daunting at the start, but has
proved a great time saver.

Once I realised how many resources I had to provide
material for posts, sourcing information was not a
problem.

Since this AMC blog literally feeds a number of my
lenses (via RSS), all I have to do is publish the lenses
because the blog post has created a change or update
without further intervention on my part.

I now have a growing directory of information
on the blog that I can access at any time for my
own use.

I also have a list of blog topics lined up (10 at
the moment), so production for the next week
or so will not be a problem.

Since I started thinking of blogging everyday,
I began to pay more attention to what I read,
observed, viewed and heard. Because my senses
are now attuned to looking for "bloggable/postable"
material, I now have a mindset that serves my
posting target (the value of focused achievement).

I now take notes of information I access and use
these notes as catalysts for blog posts.

Best of all my posts are now generating an endless
source of article ideas for me - a major spin-off.

The real hurdle I had to overcome was my
perfectionist streak that had me trying to write a
landmark article with every post. Once I learned to
cut the cloth (the size and complexity of the post)
to match the time available on a given day, I was
able to see my goal as achievable and make great
strides towards daily posting.

So in taking the time and focusing on achieving
this goal of daily posting, I have actually saved
myself time and improved my overall productivity.

Who do you blog for?

The experts tell us that we should blog with a single person
in mind. This means using words such as "you" and "your",
not "them" and "they".

It can really help you to write if you treat your blogging
as a conversation - a bit less formal writing than an article.

The secret to writing is clearly to keep the audience in mind
as you write - this is often difficult given the diversity of
levels of experience and knowledge of your readers.

I have to own up that I also blog for my own benefit.
In part, this is to get my head around some concepts
or to record some important information I want to
access later.

Invariably, I find that I have to put something into
practice after I make a post - some aspect that I have
forgotten about or overlooked. The blog post can
be a salutary reminder for me.

This just reinforces the fact that blogging has multiple
benefits for the author as well as the reader.

Squidoo: Google Blog Search Module

The Google Blog Search module on Squidoo lenses gives you
the option of obtaining a blog feed or news feed from Google
for your specified keyword.

You will need to nominate which feed you want for a
particular lens and identify the desired keyword for the
feed.

If you want both feeds, news and blog, on the one lens,
you will need to create two separate Google modules.
This would also apply if you wanted to add a feed for
two different keywords.

Besides providing up to date information for your lens,
the Google Blog Search feed can provide you with ideas for
websites that you can add to your Squidoo Link Module.
Similarly, the blog feeds may suggest tags for your
Squidoo lens.

Another use for the blog feed is to click on a blog entry to
track back to the original post on the blog so that you can
leave a comment with a link back to your Squidoo lens.

I did that this morning for the following lens, because the
Blogger was seeking resources in the area of digital
storytelling for primary school children:
http://www.squidoo.com/digital-storytelling

I’m hoping the Blogger will add my Squidoo lens as a
resource link on their blog. In this way, I gain another
in-bound link for my lens.

By the way, in-bound links, like clickouts from your
Squidoo lens, contribute to lensrank.

Squidoo: how to build lensrank

Spirituality, Squidoo Angel and Giant Squid,
has built a lens on how to improve lensrank.

In previous posts, I mentiond the importance
of regular updating of Squidoo lenses and the value
of blog feeds for improving lensrank.

Spirituality explains the nature of lensrank,
its purpose and how lensrank can be improved.

She indicates that lensrank is influenced by
lens freshness, visitors, whether you're a Giant Squid,
number of clickouts, blessing by a Squidoo Angel

Twitter Hints: Promote Your Articles on Twitter

Why promote your articles on Twitter?

Well Twitter has a Google PR9 ranking
and is growing like crazy (a growth of 7oo%
since February 2008 - now 10,000,000 users).

Tweeting about your articles on Twitter can
give you these benefits:
  • widen your audience for your article
  • provide a high quality backlink to the article
  • bring new followers to your Twitter account
  • encourage people to subscribe to your articles RSS feed
To ensure that you get the whole article title into
your tweet, use Tinyurl.com to create a shorter
URL (usually article URLs are very long and may
take up your whole 140 characters of your tweet!).

Why Create an Authority Site?

In his recent e-Book, Authority Site 2.0 Blueprint,
Mike Paetzold identifies the search engine benefits of
an authority site.

Mike argues that an authority site will enable you to
gain top search engine rankings, attract free traffic
and boost your income accordingly. He suggests
that Web 2.0 with its social networking capabilities
makes it even easier today to create an authority
site that is attractive to Google and the other search
engines.

I could not agree more and this has been
confirmed by my own experience with my
Squidoo Marketing Strategies authority site
(Google PR4 ranking and no1. position for a
number of search term results on Google).

But how do you use Web 2.0 to gain recognition
by Google as an authority site?

Well that is the subject of Mike Paetzold's
comprehensive, 159 page e-Book
(that is going for a steal at the moment).

What I want to concentrate on is what I think
Mike underplays - the value of creating
an Authority
Site.

Starting your own authority site is perhaps
the critical ingredient for success in Internet
marketing. Think of any successful marketer...
and what comes to mind?

You know them and buy from them because they
are recognized experts in blogging, social
marketing, AdSense, Google AdWords, SEO, list
building, affiliate marketing, article writing,
weight loss or Squidoo.

They have established their reputation
and gained recognition through their
authority sites
.

An "authority" by definition is someone who
exerts influence, has credibility, gains followers,
leads by example and commands attention.

People are attracted to "authority figures",
respect their opinions, want to be associated
with them, quote them, talk and write about
them and voluntarily promote the authority's
expertise through buzz, blogging and social
networking.

Once you have established yourself as an authority,
people begin to trust you and follow your
recommendations. Your conversion rate soars
and daily income becomes a reality.

If you are recognized as an expert, people want
to associate with you and want to listen to
what you have to say. They will seek you out
for joint ventures, product development,
interviews and collaborative marketing.

When you think about it, the Internet would
not exist if people had not first created authority
sites to make it worthwhile for others to use the
Internet to search for information.

Those early pioneers offered information because
they were passionate about their topic. It was only
later that we learned to monetize this information
provision.

The sure road to success on the Internet is to
become
established as an authority in your own right -
to create your own authority site.

Mike Paetzold has shown the way to create an
authority site within a Web 2.0 environment:

Stick-at-it-ness: a key success factor in squidoo affiliate marketing

I have had two inquiries recently from subscribers to
my mailing list which related to the question, "Why
I am not getting traffic to my Squidoo lens?"

I noticed that one of them had a lens that was not
indexed by Google, had limited tags and was a re-hash
of a sales page - with no original content whatsoever.

How would anyone find the lens and why would they
want to visit the lens - let alone return for a second
visit?

I know I often have to resist the temptation to move
onto new things all the time and leave some things
unfinished or incomplete.

I have just had a few days free from travel and realized
that I could spend a day just improving the lenses that I
had created and integrating my marketing efforts further.
I set about doing that today and was amazed at what
I had overlooked.

Often the solution to growth of your Internet business
and income is right before your eyes, looking you in the
face – you just can’t see it! That's the theme of an
article I wrote some time ago:
Walk to gain insights into your Internet business

The more I study the really successful Internet marketers,
the more I am convinced that their key to success is not
only that they have a marketing plan, but they stick to it.

They have what I termed stick-at-it-ness. They stick to
their marketing plan and don't deviate - they are not
distracted by the latest and greatest.

They do the daily grind as well as the more interesting
aspects of Internet marketing (and when they are successful
they give the daily grind to someone else to do!).

I don't know about you, but I don't like routine - I love
creating new things, learning new ideas and trying out different
ways to do things.

But I have come to realize increasingly that stick-at-it-ness
and a planned routine is what I really need to improve
my online marketing results.

That's why PotPieGirl's One Week Marketing Plan
is good medicine for me. Her detailed, planned approach
builds income weekly through a phased approach to
affiliate marketing. If you follow her plan, your income
will grow week by week. But you have to stick at it!

As PotPieGirl (Jennifer) points out:
If you are willing to do for a year
what others won't,

you can spend a lifetime doing
what others CAN'T.

She goes further and suggests:
There Are NO Short Cuts
To Success…

But, you CAN spend yourself
into failure.

Well, today I have been doing a bit of searching on
terms related to squidoo and affiliate marketing, and
for almost every term I searched, I found one of
PotPieGirl's sites/posts/articles listed in the top
ten Google results - and that is why she gets heaps
of traffic (and makes heaps of sales).

Jennifer has that stick-at-it quality that makes her
highly successful - her One Week Marketing Plan
was recently the third highest selling ClickBank
product for her category. Jennifer's plan combines
the Google pulling power of Squidoo with the viral
marketing power of article marketing and blogging.

I can vouch for the effectiveness of her plan -
I have made over $400 just from applying
her plan (half-heartedly) to marketing her own
product.

So if you want to copy a marketing plan that works,
visit the link below (but don't forget to stick-at-it
and you WILL be successful):

Use your Chakra energy to develop your Squidoo marketing

The seven Chakras are the hidden energy centers
in your body through which you receive, process
and transmit life energies. They act as
"energy transformers" and influencers of change.

Your thoughts, emotions or actions can either block
or activate these hidden energy centers.

Whether you are writing articles or e-Books,
developing Squidoo lenses or using other Squidoo
marketing strategies, you will experience the ebb
and flow of energy.

It is important to identify the things that block
Chakra energy and the strategies that help
to release energy. In this way you can experience
focused achievement.

The seven Chakras can be identified as follows:

1. Base Chakra – the energy of existence
2. Naval Chakra – the energy of activity
3. Solar Plexus Chakra – the energy of control
4. The Heart Chakra – the energy of community
5. The Throat Chakra – the energy of meaning
6. The Third Eye Chakra – the energy of integration
7. The Crown Chakra – the energy of Spirit

In the following article, I explain each of these
Chakras and identify ways in which we can block them
unconsciously. I discuss strategies that can be used to
tap the energy of each of the seven Chakras:
How to Use Chakra Energies for Squidoo Marketing

While the examples are focused on article writing,
the principles apply to any aspect of
Squidoo Marketing.

Squidoo: create a product review lens

One of the best ways to promote affiliate products
is to create a product review lens.

However, there are ways to make such a review
effective in terms of affiliate sales.

Rosalind Gardner, author of the Super Affiliate
Handbook
, has written a landmark article on
this topic:

How to Write a Product Review

by Rosalind Gardner

How do you choose the products you buy?
Do you simply accept as gospel truth all the
good things a merchant says about their own
product? Or, do you ask your friends' opinions
and look for independent product reviews
before opening your wallet?

If you're a savvy consumer (which of course you are),
then you put more stock in your friends' opinions
and independent product reviews. As affiliate marketers,
we become much more successful when we approach
our site visitors as friends and take the attitude that
they too are savvy consumers

From that standpoint, an affiliate's real work is to
pre-sell our merchant partners' products by writing fair
and balanced reviews, also known as endorsement letters.

Sure, writing a review for each product takes a little time
and effort, but it's an activity that sets the super affiliates
apart from their less-super counterparts in terms of
rewards... read 'income'.

Product reviews can be either stand-alone or
comparative.
The first type focuses on a single product,
while the second is an evaluation of similar items that
allows readers to choose which product best suits them.

Before you begin to write a product review, you'll
need to evaluate the product. (Nothing like stating the
obvious, eh?)

I prefer to endorse products that I've actually used.
However, buying a product isn't always feasible.
If that's the case, affiliate managers will often grant
'proven' super-affiliates access to products for their
review.

That's especially true of information products and
ervices that are delivered online, such as internet
dating services.

But what if you're not yet a super affiliate, and can't
fathom a basement full of treadmills to review for
your exercise site? Well, do what your customer
would do if product reviews didn't exist on the
Internet - go to the store and test those treadmills
out!

And how do you review acne medications for your
skin care site if you don't have acne? Surely, you
have some friends with (previously) pimply-faced
teenagers... ask them to tell you what worked for
them.

If you can't find out that way, search Google
for "consumer reviews" + "acne medications".
Read as many as you can to come up with three
to five effective products (that have affiliate programs).

Once you've collected information about the product,
it's time to start writing that product review.

The structure for a product review is simple,
containing an introduction, overview and summary.

The introduction consists of a few sentences outlining
the problem and introduces a possible solution for
the reader, without going into detail.

The overview describes the product's promise,
a description of how the product is used, as well as
its effectiveness and value.

The summary is almost a repeat of the introduction,
and contains a strong recommendation for purchase
based on your conclusions.

To simplify the review-writing process, I ask myself
the following questions when writing product reviews
for my own affiliate sites.

1. Who is my reader and what is their problem?
2. What does the product promise?
3. How well does the product solve the problem?
What does it do? How does it work?
4. Does the product offer good value? (Would I buy
this product?)

Let's look at each question in turn.

The first question asks, "Who is my reader and what
is their problem?" If acne is your reader's problem and
your site visitors are adults, you probably want to avoid
terminology like 'Zap those zits!' and use more
age-appropriate language. Remember too, that 'zits'
aren't really the problem.

The real problem is how your reader feels
about having pimples all over their face and
how that affects their life
.

If you've experienced the problem yourself, say so.
Describe your experience, and show understanding
and compassion for the reader's plight. Speaking from
real experience earns your readers' trust which always
improves sales rates.

If you have trouble figuring out how your reader might
be affected by his problem, then you can research
that online too. For example, I searched Google for
"hate acne" and came across Acne.org, where one
young woman lamented, "My sh%tty skin is seriously
ruining my social life and my relationships with men.
I'm avoiding it all just cuz I don't want to show my face.
Its really sad. I also spend a lot of money on make up'
I'm not even asking for the most perfect skin (even
though it would be nice) but even if I was limited to
just a couple zits....and then it would take me under
30 mins to get ready ....I would never be home, and
I would go back to living the life that I ohh so miss."

That gives you a pretty clear picture of how she feels,
right? Now address those concerns using emotive
terms and you'll improve your conversion rates.

Here's an example. Rather than say, "Product A will
cure your acne", start with a question that appeals
to your reader's emotion, such as "Is acne ruining your
social life? Scared to leave the house - or even show
your face? There IS a solution to your plight."

That introduction brings us to the next question
which is, 'What does the product promise?' Does the
product cure the problem? Does it work faster, or with
less hassle and expense? You found answers to that
question during your product research.

In this section you simply summarize your findings.
Next, answer the third set of questions, "How well
does the product solve the problem?", "what does it
do?" and "how does it work?" based on your product
research.

Results are the most important information,
so it's not necessary to provide nitty gritty details
about how you use the product or what it's made of or
how it is packaged, etc. unless the merchant does not
supply that information on their site, and you consider
the information of importance to your reader.

Too, we're all aware that no product is perfect, so don't
go overboard and write a completely glowing, one-sided
review. To make the product review balanced and fair,
detail what you do and don't like about the product. If you
want to avoid negative statements when outlining your
dislikes, try phrasing the sentence like "although I'd
prefer a slightly less greasy formula..." or "although the
bottle lacks a pump dispenser..." and finish on a positive
note.

Lastly, make a value statement. For example,
"While Product A and B both eliminate most acne problems
in 30 days, Product A wins our 'best value' award priced
at $20 less per bottle. Or, if you're writing a single product
review, you could say something like, "Acme's Acne Product
would be great value even at twice the price, but at this price
it can't be beat!"

For even better conversions, be sure to include a
product graphic
on your product review webpage,
and a testimonial or two from users that you solicit
through your site or use with permission from your
merchant partner's site.

In summary, tell your visitors what you would say
to a friend if you were telling them about a product
that you found and liked. That approach will make
writing reviews easier and your friendly attitude
will push your conversion rates through the roof!
