Wizzley: A Writers' Community Launches

Wizzley, a new writers' community, has been in public launch for just over a week.

There are now over 350 authors and more than 350 original articles.

Wizzley is an article site with the option to add images and video and
other modules to enrich the article content.

There is a strong emphasis on quality with the minimum requirement
of 400 words per article.  The site has inbuilt duplicate content checks
to ensure the originality of the content.

Wizzley is very much a community so members contribute to the
community as well as write articles.  Community contributions are by
way of forum posts, commenting on articles and contributing to
improvements of the site.

The Wizzley community is a dynamic group of writers who respect
each other and collaborate in the process of creating a great site
and building each others confidence and competence as a writer.

Wizzley members can earn revenue from direct affiliate links as well
as from the following income modules:
  • Adsense
  • Amazon
  • Allposters
  • Zazzle
Revenue from these four modules is shared on an impression basis -
50% of impressions will show the author's affiliate ID and the other
50% will show Wizzley's affiliate ID.

You can also earn income from referrals - 10% of the impressions
from referrals' articles will show your affiliate ID's (for life). This
share comes off Wizzley's 50%, not your referral's.

Wizzley's Alexa rank at the time of writing is:
  • US   -   17,511
  • Germany  -  9,418
  • Global   - 135,953

Come and join us at Wizzley - the fun, fast and friendly site for authors.

Traffic Dashboard Review: structured guide to traffic generation

Marlon Sanders has just released his Traffic Dashboard
which gives you 16 ways to generate traffic to your
website, blog or Squidoo lens.

The rows in the Dashboard represent 6 broad traffic
sources:
  • article marketing
  • search engine optimization
  • social media marketing
  • banner ad marketing
  • email marketing (incl. solo ads)
  • affiliate marketing (for your own product)
I purchased the system after very strong support
for the product in the Warrior's Forum.

The whole system is designed as a point-and-click
access point with each icon representing a source
of traffic or another step in an already introduced
traffic source.

For example, the first row of the dashboard discusses
article marketing. Each of the icons in this row
provide a stage in the process in the form of
detailed step-by-step instructions. Icons cover
keyword research, writing the article, the resource
box, landing page, submission and editing and
outsourcing. Each stage is illustrated with
screen shots and examples.

The social media row of Traffic Dashboard is
different in terms of the level of detail provided.
This row, for example, covers Facebook Ads,
YouTube, Video Sites, Squidoo Lenses,
The Epiphany and Images. ["The Epiphany"
is Marlon's personal insight into how to really
generate traffic.]

Thus the level of detail for social networking
in the social media row is a long way from the depth
and comprehensiveness of my SquidooRoo Program.

However, Marlon does provide an easy entry point
for someone who is not used to using some of these
aspects.

There is something in Traffic Dashboard for both the
newbie and the advanced.  I know I certainly learned
some things on my first run through.

Strengths of Traffic Dashboard
  • range of areas covered
  • step-by-step process
  • very well illustrated
  • motivational (encourages you to "have a go")
  • builds confidence as you master each step
  • strong support for newbies
  • introduces some new approaches to generating traffic
  • "The Epiphany" - worth the cost of the product.
 Weaknesses of Traffic Dashboard
  • product tries to cover both newbies and advanced
  • some areas (such as social media) are not comprehensive
  • the depth across topics varies considerably
  • the Squidoo instructions are inadequate
I mention the last point specifically in the light of the
Google Algorith Change and Squidoo's response.
Squidoo is now putting a lot more emphasis on
original content and lenses that lack original content
(that were tolerated before) will now be locked.
Traffic Dashboard does not make this point
clear.

Despite some of it's limitations, Traffic Dashboard has
some real merits.  If you are a relative newbie, or at the
intermediate level of Internet marketing, it has a lot
to offer through its systematic approach and
step-by-step instructions.  More advanced Internet
marketers may find that they are already doing
60% of what is covered (and more besides).
However, there is very real value in "The
Epithany" which shows you how to leverage your
content creation.

Check out this product - it may be just what you
need to introduce some system and discipline to
your marketing efforts:

Ezinearticles.com - New author guidelines 2011

Quality Criteria for Authors

In response to the Google Algorith Change 2011, Ezinearticles.com
has now finalized its new Quality critieria for authors.

The list is provided here:
  1. Doubling the time for editors to make quality checks
  2. No longer accept article submissions via WordPress Plugin and API
  3. Two weeks limit for removal of identified dead links (vs 35 days)
  4. Only 10 additional submissions to reach Platinum Level (vs 25)*
  5. Minimum 400 word count (vs 250)

* Note: if you do not make the quality grade (platinum member) after
20 submissions you will no longer be allowed to submit to
Ezinearticles.com

The NoFollow Link Debate

There has been a heated debate over the suggestion by
Ezinearticles.com that they would introduce a nofollow link
process for the Resource box area of an article (they already
have this in place for "within article" links).

Blog comments became quite heated over this topic
(50 + pages of comments). There was a very strong resistance
to this proposed change as it stopped authors from generating
quality backlinks via Ezinearticles.com.

The effect of the no- follow tag on links is that search engines
will not follow/index the link and no "link juice" or anchor text
will pass from Ezinearticles.com (now PR 6) to the
author's website.  Thus the author would not gain a quality
backlink (see Matt Cutt's video below explaining Google's
position on no-follow links).

Christopher Knight argued that using the "no follow" tag
for the Resource Box links, would show Google that
Ezinearticles.com were not "gaming" the search engine
system and would improve its quality score.

Other commentators pointed out that Articlebase.com
had a 100% "no follow" policy and still were hit very hard
by Google's 2011 Algorith Change.

The debate then turned to, "What is the fundamental purpose
of Ezinearticles.com?"  Christopher Knight argued that the primary
purpose is to serve the reader with content that helps them
solve their problems/issues - Ezinearticles.com does not exist
to provide quality backlinks for authors.

Many of the commentators then argued that authors submit for
two purposes - to get traffic and quality backlinks. They suggested
that if the second benefit was taken away, many authors would no
longer publish on the Ezinearticles.com article directory.

Christopher Knight, Owner of Ezinearticles.com, then
withdrew the suggestion of "no follow" links from
current quality considerations.

The discussion, though, highlighted Ezinearticles.com absolute
commitment to improved quality (necessary for its survival)
but genuine willingness to engage in discussion and consultation
with its members.

It also highlights the need to be continuously vigilant about quality
and innovation, even for an organisation that holds a premier
position as the No. 1 article directory of the Internet.

Ezinearticles.com Response to Google's new "Farmer Algorith"

Google bots on-the-move

If you thought it was difficult in the past to get your article
published on Ezinearticles.com, things are going to be
even tougher in the future.  Ezinearticles.com is
predicting that it's current 40.6% rejection rate will
climb to at least 60% because of new measures it is
putting in place to improve the quality of the site.

These changes have come as an immediate response to
what is being termed as Googles's "Farmer Algorith"
changes.  Google has decided that it is time to
change its search engine algorith to dump poor quality
sites from high rankings:

This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites
—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from
other websites or sites that are just not very useful.

Google plans instead to give more value to what they consider
to be high quality sites:
...it will provide better rankings for high-quality sites—sites
with original content and information such as research,
in-depth reports, thoughtful analysis and so on.

Unfortunately sites like Ezinearticles.com, who go out of their
way to create quality through human editing and other measures,
have been among the hardest hit.

Ezinearticles.com has already recorded the immediate downturn
in traffic it experienced after the changes were announced:

While we adamantly disagree with anyone who places the
“Content Farm” label on EzineArticles.com, we were not
immune to this algorithm change. Traffic was down 11.5%
on Thursday and over 35% on Friday. In our life-to-date,
this is the single most significant reduction in market trust
we’ve experienced from Google.

There has been an immediate response by Ezinearticles.com
which has signaled the following changes:

1. tighten the software mechanism that detects copied content
2. no longer accept submissions directly from WordPress blogs
3. reduction in number of ads per page (to keep article reader focused)
4. 600-850 words may become the new normal with 400 being the minimum
5. increased rejection of "advertorials"
6. tightening up on categories that tend to encourage spam or poor content
7. may start rejecting content that is not unique to
EzineArticles.com alone. (this is in line with some news release outlets.)

So you can expect a whole lot of tightening up on Ezinearticles.com
but also on HubPages, AssociatedContent.com, Suite101.com and Buzzle.com
- all of whom have been negatively impacted by the Google Algorith Changes.

Some of the winners in the aftermath of the Google Algorith Changes are:
  1. eHow.com
  2. youtube.com
  3. ebay.com
  4. facebook.com
  5. instructables.com
...plus Sears and Walmart!!

Dan Abbamont who compared some stats before and after the change
based on Google Canada suggested that Squidoo too lost 15 places
in search results.

This is not supported by other stats supplied by researchers.

Squidoo's recent appointment of large numbers of GiantSquids
as SquidAngels to do quality control over allocated
topic "neighborhoods" (sub-categories) was probably done in
anticipation of these Google Algorith Changes.

Whatever, the final fall-out is, the whole arena of article marketing
and content creation has changed yet again.

Twitter Traffic Machine Review (after 6 weeks)

I started with the Twitter Traffic Machine on 26 April
2009 - about 6 weeks ago.

At the time I was following about 29 people and had
around 250 followers. I had made a few hundred
tweets/posts.

Now (6 June 2009), my Twitter stats show:

Following: 2846
Followers: 2596
Updates: 1,170

I was reticent at first to purchase the Twitter Traffic
Machine
for three reasons:

1. I wanted to maintain control over the number of people
I follow.

2. I didn't want to be distracted from what else I was doing
with article marketing, Squidoo and blogging.

3. I did not want to spend a lot of time installing a new system.

My objections re the first point have vanished. I originally
just wanted to follow people I knew who would add value to
what I am doing. However, I soon learned the richness
of having a wider group to follow. I have learned so much
and connected with so many more amazing people.

I also learned that far from distracting me, the Twitter
Traffic Machine
has enabled me to leverage my other
activities and expose my blogging, article writing and
Squidoo lens creation to 10 times the number I could
before.

The set-up of the Twitter Traffic Machine involves a
number of simple steps, mainly registering with various
tools and using the checklist provided to integrate them.
However, it's a set-and-forget system where you
continuously reap the benefits. Every day you receive
multiple new followers.

The system has an inbuilt viral affiliate program
which so far has enabled me to earn three times what I paid
for the Twitter Traffic Machine.

From my experience, one of the secrets of success in using
the system is to be focused about what keywords you want
to keep abreast of. I have focused on Squidoo and
affiliate marketing.

You can check out the Twitter Traffic Machine here:
http://bit.ly/155fpE

BTW my stats at 17 June 2009 are:
Following: 3502
Followers: 3190
Updates: 1,380

Twitter Hints: Promote Your Articles on Twitter

Why promote your articles on Twitter?

Well Twitter has a Google PR9 ranking
and is growing like crazy (a growth of 7oo%
since February 2008 - now 10,000,000 users).

Tweeting about your articles on Twitter can
give you these benefits:
  • widen your audience for your article
  • provide a high quality backlink to the article
  • bring new followers to your Twitter account
  • encourage people to subscribe to your articles RSS feed
To ensure that you get the whole article title into
your tweet, use Tinyurl.com to create a shorter
URL (usually article URLs are very long and may
take up your whole 140 characters of your tweet!).
e.g. my article on affiliate marketing for stay at home

Article Writing: Massive Action for Massive Results

The more I read and hear about internet marketing
and affiliate marketing, the more I'm convinced
that real results come only with massive,
focused action.

I was reading Ewen Chia's FREE Super
Affiliate Blueprint
the other day and noted that
massive action is one of the key things that separate
the super affiliate marketers from you and me.

I recalled then that this certainly seems to
be a defining difference between those who achieve
substantial affiliate income and those who don't.

I was reminded of what I had read over the past year:
* the top bloggers blog three or four times a day
* the top Squidoo Lensmasters have over 100 lenses
* the top free ad experts submit to 100,000+ sites
* the top Adsense earners have 1,000 Adsense sites
* the top safelist earners submit to 60 safelists every day
* the top forum earners write 10 posts daily in forums
* the top social bookmarketers submit to 100's of sites daily
* the top viral ebook marketers produce 100's of ebooks

In the area of article marketing, the message is the same.
My friend, Jinger Jarrett, has had over 1,000,000 views
of her articles - numerous articles promoted in
numerous ways. The top article writers on
Ezinearticles.com produce over 3,000 articles.

On my morning walk today I listened to a conference call
by Maria Marsala, one of the pioneers of article
marketing she indicated that she used to submit to
400 article directories before she found
Article Marketer.
(Note: If you want a free lesson on how to
produce lots of articles fast, listen to her call here.)

Maria, and top affiliate marketers like
Tinu Abayomi-Paul, now use Article Marketer to
automatically submit their articles to thousands of
of websites and hundreds of directories.

I have just taken out a quarterly subscription to
Article Marketer (currently at a heavy discount).
This now allows me to submit unlimited articles
which in turn are auto-submitted to thousands
of websites. All I do is enter the article
information once - title, description, body,
category, keywords and resource box.
The program, Article Marketer, then does
the submission to multiple sites.

I purchased the quarterly membership because
I decided that I would take massive action on
two fronts this year:
1. article marketing
2. Squidoo (aim: 100 lenses)

I can link the articles to my lenses (promoting
my ecourses and my affiliate products/programs).
The traffic from the articles builds my lensrank,
my list, my Google ranking and my affiliate income.
There is certainly synergy in focusing on both
article marketing and Squidoo.

P.S. Don't forget the special discount at
Article Marketer ends soon. They'll even write
an article for you for free as a part of the deal.

Article Submission for Backlinks and Traffic

Everyday I receive reinforcement of the value of submitting
articles to Article Directories to create traffic, build my profile,
build my lensrank and PR and build my list.

It's a great list of benefits for a small amount of effort.
Even if you can't write articles, or don't want to spend time
writing them, you can access other people who will do it
for you. I'll show you how to do this easily and cheaply at the
end of this post.

The primary focus of this post is on how and
where to submit your articles.

Preparing your articles for submission

The process I use is to create the article in Microsoft Word
and then submit it in the first instance to EzineArticles.com

Some people suggest using NotePad because some symbols
used in Microsoft Word (e.g. "inverted commas") do not
convert well to the article directory databases. However, I
have a personal preference for Microsoft Word because it
is more user friendly and you can spell-check your article.

It is important not to use "hard returns" at the end of
lines- only use these at the end of paragraphs. When
writing an article on MsWord I also write the title,
summary or description and identify the keywords. This
makes cut and paste so much easier when you are
submitting your article.

I always submit my articles to EzineArticles .com in the
first instance. I know that once it is accepted there, it will
be accepted elsewhere. Also once the article is published by
EzineArticles.com, I find that I can just cut and paste from
their site to submit to other article directories and do so
without any format problems.

Where to submit articles

EzineArticles .com (PR6) is the king of article directories.
I have often found that an article published in
EzineArtilces.com will appear in the Top 10 Google results
for my keyword in a matter of days.

The downside is that this directory has human editors
who accept or reject your article or make recommendations
for changes. A lot of the other lesser directories use
computerised editing so their standards are not as strict.
However, if you follow the editorial guidelines with
EzineArticles.com you should have your article accepted.

Two key guidelines for this directory are:
- no pure promotion, article must be informative
(a common guideline)
- no direct affiliate links (this will vary with the directory)

The upside of EzineArticles.com is the extensive resource
base, their professionalism, search engine pulling power, their
html editor for bolding, etc, an RSS feed for your articles
(and articles by theme) and their Platinum level membership.

Once you have 10 articles submitted and accepted, you gain
Platinum membership which means you can submit as many
articles as you want and get priority editing and acceptance
(usually within two days ...and they stick by this!).

Other recommended article directories:

* GoArticles.com (PR 3) - allows direct affiliate links

* Searchwarp.com (PR3) - you can also submit your website

* ArticleCity.com (PR6)

* Marketing-seek.com (PR4)

Free article submitter

This is a professional article submitter that enables you to
auto-submit to 110 article directories. Write articles, link
them to your lens and then submit to directories...and watch
page 1 of Google for your keyword. Here's the link:
http://www.articlesubmitter.squidoomarketingstrategies.com/

Keeping track of article submissions

I use a Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet to keep track of article
directories, usernames and passwords and submission dates
for each article.

Unlike EzineArticles.com, some article directories drop your
articles after a period of inactivity. You need to check
the article directories regularly to see how your articles are
going and which ones are attracting the most traffic.

Squidoo Affiliate Marketing - Article Writing (3)

The Resource Box

The article resource box is the most critical part of your article.

This is where you make your pitch for your yourself and your
website. It's also where you create a call to action.

Article writing and publishing is an exchange process - you share
some of your knowledge and experience in the body of the article
in exchange for the right to make a pitch at the end.

The resource box is important also because this is the only
place that many article directories will let you place a URL link.

Your goals in creating a resource box should be:
  1. establish or reinforce your internet profile
  2. build your credibility in the topic area involved
  3. capture subscribers to your list
  4. encourage visitors to your website, blog or Squidoo lens

WHAT TO INCLUDE

Your resource box should include the following:

1. your name - to establish who you are and to build your
internet profile (e.g. Ron Passfield, PhD, affiliate marketing coach)

2. your unique "selling" proposition - why anyone should
read your article, your unique capacity to help/assist the reader
(e.g. "author of an e-book on Squidoo affiliate marketing" ).

3. your Squidoo lens/website address - this creates the link
from the authority site (article directory) to your site and builds
your Google page rank and positioning (and probably your
Lensrank) - note: most well established article directories have
a Google PR rank of 5 or 4.

4. call to action - this is critical. What do you want the reader
to do after reading your article? (e.g. visit Ron's Squidoo lens to
subscribe to his weekly ezine on Squidoo marketing strategies,
tips, hints and resources).

Some further tips on what to include

1. use your articles to create a profile relevant to the topic
(e.g. when I was focusing on affiliate marketing articles, I used the
profile of "affiliate marketing coach", now I tend to write about
Squidoo and use the profile 'Top 100 Squidoo lensmaster"

2. in your article you are selling yourself not a product, program
or piece of software - establish why they should read your article
and follow your call to action.

3. decide what is your primary "call to action" and use only one
call to action but enable other actions (e.g. I now say
"visit my Top 100 Squidoo lens for access to my email course and
.....; but I also include a link to this A.M.C. blog without a call
to action)

4. most articles directories only allow two urls in the resource box
and Ezinearticles.com allows three - use all two or three URLs
as appropriate.

5. make sure your urls are hyperlinked - some article
directories will create the hyperlink for you if you put in the full
url in the resource box; others expect you to create the html
code (check the author guidelines and/or "preview" your article
to see what happens).

6. make sure your resource box is keyword rich (but
don't go overboard into keyword spamming) - think about
the keyword (s) you are targeting.

7. use an anchor text with a keyword other than that
shown
in your url (this gives you two bites of the cherry
as Google picks up the keyword from the url itself), e.g. my
lens is http://www.squidoo.com/squidoomarketingstrategies
- I now use "squidoo affiliate marketing" or "squidoo marketing"
as my anchor text and not "squidoo marketing strategies" -
the result is I now have top ten Google positions for all three
keywords, not just one).

8. make sure the keywords you use are relevant to the
content
of the article (and use variations of them within
the article).

9. where possible add your photo to your article directory
profile - most directories will publish it along with your article
- this helps to build your internet recognition.

THINGS TO AVOID IN THE RESOURCE BOX

1. direct affiliate links - most directories do not allow direct
affiliate links - this is the advantage of Squidoo lenses because
you can direct people to your lens where you have your
affiliate links embedded in your modules.

2. hard sell of a product, program or software - most directories
will not publish your article because it puts readers off.

3. your phone number or email as you will get spammed.

4. multiple links, like every lens you ever created - select what's
best for the article topic.

5. so much text that it takes up 50% of the article - aim for about
15-20% (although some article directories tempt you with a lot
more word space).

6. repeated anchor text with the same keyword - this is treated
as spam - it's better anyway to use variations of your keywords.

Squidoo Marketing Strategies: Use bum marketing with Squidoo

I recently bought Kelly's
Squidoo Queen and found it a
perfect complement to my
own e-book on...
Squidoo Marketing Strategies.

In my e-book I spend some considerable time in helping
people set up their lenses, build lens ranking and create
traffic for their lenses. Kelly puts most of her emphasis
on how to make money from Squidoo.

She draws on the Bum Marketing Method and uses
these same principles to help you choose your lens focus
and structure.

Bum Marketing employs article marketing with a
difference. It focuses on low competition keywords
and submission to high traffic, high rated article directory
sites.

(Note: Bum Marketing Method provides some very
generous free advice and resources - worth a look in
its own right!!)

Kelly shows you how to apply this
method to your Squidoo lens to make
a real profit from affiliate programs,
including Clickbank products.

She provides free resources to help you with this
task and offers many ways to win and sustain
high ranking with Google for your lens.

I found some valuable insights in her e-book
that I am now putting into practice. For example,
I was about to create a lens around a particular
keyword phrase and found that there were already
535,000,000 organic search results listed in Google
for that phrase and numerous paid Google ads
- clearly, not a level playing field.

Kelly also offers personal one-to-one coaching at
different times for buyers of her e-book.

If you are an affiliate marketer, there
are some great insights and strategies
here to help you make a substantial profit
from Squidoo.

Kelly also shows you a creative way to cloak your
affiliate links using Hostgator.
