Social Media Training: Lesson 24

I've just completed the 24th PDF Lesson in my 6 month
training program on social media marketing.

This Graduation Lesson titled, "Where to from Here?",
is designed to help participants explore how they can
best use the ideas in the SquidooRoo Program which
covered content creation, social networking and promotion,
including press releases and social bookmarking.

In the final Lesson, we explored how to create a Fixed
Term Membership Program and offered a process for
evaluating your own Internet marketing activity.

The final Graduation Bonus is an MP3 I developed in which
I share what I have learned in creating the SquidooRoo
Program as a Fixed Term Membership. While Lesson 24
covers the mechanics of creating such a Program, the audio
focuses on the inner journey and ways to overcome
obstacles.

It has been a long haul researching and writing weekly PDFs
over 6 months and locating or creating bonuses to go with each
week's Lesson.  However it was a rewarding experience and
members of my Fixed Term Membership Program have
commented that the Program is excellent.

Here's a testimonial from Allan James, the Start Business Mentor:
For someone like myself, with over 5 years experience online
and a fair degree of success, it's rare for me to find a
membership site and tutorials that adds to my knowledge,
stimulates my thinking, and provides practical ways and means
that I can put into action immediately to grow my business.
Your excellent SquidooRoo course does all of that!

If you want to  master social media marketing for your own
business or to devleop your skills as a social media manager,
this Program is for you.

competence and income with the SquidooRoo Program:

Social Media Marketing: Growing with Squidoo

I joined Squidoo in 2007 and I have been reflecting on what this
social network has meant to me.

What I value is the encouragement to pursue your own interest
and passions and to share them through the creation of Squidoo
lenses (of which I now have 100+).

Squidoo itself is highly innovative and very supportive of innovation,
so I found that I could give expression to my creativity.  This has
been a particularly rewarding aspect of Squidoo.

The Squidoo community is exceptionally supportive and willing
to help at every turn - whether you are a newbie or an experienced
Lensmaster trying to become a Giant Squid (50 excellent lenses).

Squidoo has helped me grow in confidence in my online endeavors
and to create my own online products.  The work of  other very
talented Lensmasters and writers is a constant source of inspiration
and stimulation.

I value the friendships I have made on Squidoo and the
shared experience of working within this nurturing environment.

I think we all need a home within the social media environs
and I consider Squidoo home.  From there I can actively
engage with other social networks - such as Facebook,
Twitter, Hub Pages, LinkedIn and Redgage - and feel
comfortable that I have a contribution to make.

So in a very real sense, I feel as though I have been growing
up online through Squidoo and its evolution.

Why not join the hundreds of thousands of people who have
now built over 1,800,000 Squidoo lenses (websites)?:

Social Media Marketing : The Third Tribe

There appears to be two opposing "tribes" that inhabit
social media.

The first tribe, the goldiggers, consider social media
a goldmine to be mined mercilessly without any consideration
of the impact on the community environment within the
various social networks. For this group, it is okay to
auto-generate thousands of artificial user identities and
spam blogs with auto-generated posts. It is okay to deceive
people with misleading headlines or trap them into
auto-subscription to heavy monthly payments. It is the
tribe of false promises that is full of hype and deception.
The Golddiggers war cry is "crush the competition".

The second tribe, the moralists, focus only on the
community dimension and consider any form of marketing on
social media to be sacrilege. This tribe adopts the moral
high ground and emphasizes community at the expense of
commerce. They overlook the fact that many people nowadays
(because of forced layoffs and the economic climate) earn
their living online. They consider it immoral to ask people
to pay for information or advice (that has often been
generated through years of trial and error and considerable
expense in time and money).

The Third Tribe subscribes to the view that social media marketing
is a means of building relationships, developing a customer base,
optimizing websites and blogs and creating personal wealth.
Beneath this assumption is a values set that reinforces
truth in marketing, collaboration, sharing, genuine and deep
relationships, personal rights, mutual learning and community
capacity building. Members of the Third tribe believe that
it is appropriate and necessary to offer people in social networks
valuable information and resources that meets their needs
and to do so at a reasonable (not inflated) price. At the same time,
they are willing to use their knowledge and skills to build up
the confidence and capability of other people (at no charge)
and readily work to support various charities or Tribal Leaders
who are actively working to make a difference in our world
and communities.

The Leaders of the Third Tribe are Darren Rowse, Brian Clark,
Chris Brogan and Sonia Simone, some of the world's top bloggers.
These leaders are dedicated to bringing together people who
share the Third Tribe values and aspirations and offer a
platform for this to occur. They charge a monthly fee but
over-deliver in terms of value with their sharing of their
knowledge of what works in Internet marketing and social
media marketing (and they have the track record).

I joined the Third Tribe at the time of its launch and have
valued the monthly interviews, the Q & A calls, the links to
resources and the active Forum. It is a real experience to
become immersed in the sharing of knowledge and skills of
people who are ethically building their wealth (both
financial and social equity) through social media marketing.

The Web 2.0 Mindset: collaborative marketing

Marketing on Web 2.0 sites through social networking requires
a change in mindset away from the traditional Web1.0 mindset.

Unfortunately many traditional Internet marketers have
been contaminated by the thought processes embedded in
Web 1.0 technology.

The change in mindset for Web 2.0 requires a shift to:
  • a collaborative mindset - away from the competitive mindset
  • natural organic growth - away from an obsession with SEO
  • long tail, tag approach - away from a small number of keywords
  • community consciousness - away from self-centredness
  • web ring orientation - away from individual, disconnected sites
  • open window mentality - away from a trap-door mentality.
Increasingly Web 2.0 involves collaborative marketing - you "like"
my Facebook Page and I reciprocate.  You comment on my
Squidoo Lens and I reciprocate. You rate my photos on
RedGage and I reciprocate.

The focus with Web 2.0 and social networking in particular is
very much about participating in, and contributing to, the community.

...and yet many top marketers today, steeped in the old ways of
doing business online, tell us that we have to "crush the competition".

It seems we are confronted and confounded by two conflicting
paradigms and the confusion is intensified by people using the
competitive mindset of Web 1.0 to promote Web 2.0 tools
and resources.

Explore how to develop a Web 2.0 mindset
and build your skills in social media marketing

Don't You Hate Those False Emails: "You Got an Affiliate Sale"

I get affiliate sales from a number of sources but rarely, if ever,
from the people who send me emails with the heading,
"You Got an Affiliate Sale".

I find these false emails manipulative, demeaning and
humiliating.  I wonder how it impacts on people
who have never had a sale or had limited affiliate sales?
Does it destroy their hope completely?

It was bad enough when inexperienced marketers used this
ploy to get us to open their emails - but now the top marketers
(who should know better) are engaging in this practice of falsely
building up their reader's hopes.

I find the practice dishonest and unethical and refuse to read
these emails.  I will also be unsubscribing from multiple lists
as a result.

The whole thing has become farsical in the extreme - we now
have a major launch underway with the leading email
having the heading, "You got an affiliate sale" - so we will
be inundated with these false assertions.

Are things on the affiliate marketing front becoming so desperate
that we have to manipulate people's hopes and emotions so
blatently?

To me all that these false emails do is confirm that there is a lot
of hype, hot air and falsity within the affiliate marketing
communications.  It is getting harder and harder to determine
the "truth".

I would be delighted if affiliate marketers would come to
their senses and desist from this inane and dishonest practice.

TweetChat: Create a Twitter conversation

One way to start a Twitter conversation about a particular topic or
niche, is to set up a TweetChat.

You can use this strategy to bring together your downline, membership
subscribers or members of your mailing list. Alternatively, you can
create a tweetchat for a wider audience, including those who are
not currently following you on Twitter.

One of the easiest ways to create such a conversation is to use the
free TweetChat program.

Once you decide to hold a tweetchat, it's a simple matter of following
a couple of steps:

1. Create a conversation (or tweet room) by deciding the title of the
chat and placing a hashtag (#) in front of the chat title,
e.g. #socialmedia.

2. Announce the time and title of the tweetchat (to your subscribers
and/or more broadly on Twitter and other social media) - and provide
instructions where necessary.

3. At the designated time, log into TweetChat.com by using your
Twitter username and password and agreeing to allow access to
your Twitter account

4. Enter the chat title (room name), e.g. #socialmedia, and begin the
chat (employing Twitter's 140 character limit minus the room title).

5. People who want to join the conversation follow steps 3 & 4.

TweetChat effectively creates a discussion room, quaranteeing the
conversation.  Each tweet automatically gets the hastag added
and the room updates automatically.

Various user controls allow you to block spammers (or people you
don't like) and to prevent the conversation refreshing as you scroll
(so you can keep track of who you want to respond to).

Tweets directed to you and your own tweets as part of the
conversation show up in your Twitter stream on conclusion of
the chat.

I recently joined a tweetchat with Ann Sieg, Renegade Network
Marketer, which was announced to all participants and affiliates
of this program.

This particular chat was more of a getting-to-know-you chat
than a focused chat.  However, it was possible to create
connections and link to people you knew from other networks
such as Squidoo.

You can focus the conversation on a specific topic and develop
your profile as an expert in the area.

TweetChat is another way of creating connections and sharing
progress, resources and tactics.

Anik Singal Releases his Online Empire Blueprint

My very first online mentor, Anik Singal, has just released his free
158 page report, The Empire Formula:
http://www.bit.ly/9qXxjF

I first came across Anik when I joined his Affiliate Classroom
in 2005.  I became a life member in 2007 and subsequently
joined Anik's PPC Classroom and his Article Directory, AffSphere.

Anik has created a $10 Million per year online empire.  His report
details step-by-step how you could build your own Empire.

The Empire Formula is actually 4 formulae - deciding your niche
market, product creation, marketing & traffic and list building.

He devotes 21 pages just to the first formula - deciding your niche.
It is very comprehensive and challenges a lot of established views.

My suggestion is if you download the report, you skim the
report first.  Then if you are stuck for a niche, read the first formula
in depth. If you are happy with your niche but want to develop
products, check out formula 2 - a very good discussion helping
you to decide what to create.

If you want to improve your marketing of products in your
chosen niche, focus in on Formula 3 - marketing and traffic.
If you are not building your list effectively, formula 4 on
list building will give you heaps of ideas.

So anyone can make use of this report whether you want to build
an online empire or just improve your online income.

This is an exceptional report and you will not find this level of
detail in any other report that does not have a price tag.

You can download Empire Formula here:

Joel Comm's Socrates WordPress Theme Makes Internet Marketing a Breeze

I have been blogging on this blog (Blogger.com)
for more than 5 years now.

Recently I started developing a WordPress blog for a social
media marketing site. I became very frustrated at times
trying to find the right themes that required minimum
effort on my part to customize the site to suit
my specific requirements.

Then there was the issue of finding the right plug-ins
to enable me to add monetization.

Joel Comm has now solved the problem for me with his
new Socrates WordPress theme (affiliate link):
http://socrates.squidooroo.com

Both my JV partner (a WordPress expert) and I have
just bought the Socrates Theme.

You can vary the headers, color & plug-ins
and it is designed to take Adsense and Clickbank
and other forms of advertising.

A really cool feature is the Social Media Slider
that makes it easy (and more likely) for readers
to promote your blog for you on the various social
media sites (that you nominate).

When you purchase Socrates you automatically get
the upgrades that are being designed for Socrates 2.

Joel Comm (Adsense expert and highly successful
Mobile Phone App creator) provides quality products
and software. The testimonials on the site
attest to this (as do those on the secret member's
blog where people rave about the support service).

The Socrates theme is purpose-built for Internet
marketers and was created by an elite marketer.

Check out the video now that explains how to
set-up an SEO optimized blog in minutes with
a point-and-click tchnology.

http://socrates.squidooroo.com

Here's some of the features:

- Custom Header Design System
- 160 + Niche Headers
- 1000’s of Design Combinations
- Built in Clickbank Monetization
- Built in Social Media Slider
- Wordpress Tutorials and Training
- Internet Marketing Training videos
- Integrated Affiliate Links for Theme earn 50%

With Socrates, not only can you control all the
links on the primary navigation bar, but there are
also three optional navigation bars -
at the top right, bottom left and bottom right.

There’s an optional “Ad Bar” which allows users
to insert a 728X90 Ad Unit above their content,
and lets them enter a Clickbank ID to rotate two
Clickbank products on the top right.

There is also a “custom html” section in the
upper right where more ad units, optin boxes,
or any html code can be added.

It's even better... in this same space there are
some social icons for Facebook, Twitter, and
your RSS Feed.

- Choose From 50+ Backgrounds or Upload Your Own

The Socrates Theme comes preloaded with
50+ backgrounds to suit your own personal style.

- Create Custom Headers On The Fly!

Over 160 Niche header designs which you can
instantly insert into your theme and brand with
your site title and description.

- Multiple Layout Design

You have the ability to choose left sidebar,
right sidebar, and split sidebar designs with
either 150px width or 300px width.

This is just the beginning of Socrates. There
are even more features coming in the next version.

Here's an example of how I have used the
Socrates WordPress Theme:

Building Social Equity 2.0: the road to success

Garrett Pierson has just released a new
training product, Building Social Equity.
[BSE for short herein]

As part of the product launch, Garrett offers
free access to a number of interviews (both mp3 &
PDF) with leading social media marketers.

By signing up under my affiliate link below you
will have access to free interviews with
Alex Mandossian, Dave Lakhani, Martin Wales,
Justin Brooke, Mari Smith, Mark Murnahan and
Joel Comm:
Building Social Equity - Interviews

In the first interview Alex Mendossian explains how
he and Garret Pierson learn from each other.
Alex looks to Garrett to build the social equity
necessary to sell his books.

One of Garrett's comments gives some insight into
the concept of social equity:
I wanted to build a relationship of trust with Alex
Mendossian so that in return I could build up my
brand and my business, and for Alex, help him to build
his business...We've just built a relationship and
again, that's what building social equity is; building
those relationships of trust.

Social media marketing involves using new channels
to deliver the message about your product or service
at a time when people are suffering "email burnout".

Garrett explains how to build the requisite trust
relationships:
...by delivering valuable and fresh content
for your target market, through submitting
this content to the worldwide web, via social
channels [such as Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon]
so that your target market can find your content.

He states that building social equity involves
bringing SEO and social media together - it means
driving targeted traffic to your small business
or affiliate product website by using social media.

Garret's Building Social Equity Course [BSE] is built
around 6 core steps:

1. Keyword research - finding the keywords that people
are searching for.
{BSE provides video training and a keyword tool for this
step}

2. Understanding your target market - finding out the
conversations that are occurring in relation to your primary
keywords (two or three core keywords) - identify the
problems that people are seeking to redress.
{BSE has specific video training on this often
overlooked step}

3. Writing articles - creating and submitting keyword rich
articles addressing the problems of concern to your target
market.
{BSE gives video training on how to write the articles
the right way to attract targeted traffic}

4. Submitting content to social media - re-purposing the
articles for submission to social media sites
{BSE video training covers this aspect in depth for each site -
HubPages, StumbleUpon, Zimbio.com, Squidoo, Scribd.com,
WordPress.com, EZineArticles, Technorati, Gather.com,
PRWeb (press releases) and others}

5. Social networking - building the relationships, having the
conversations, contributing to social networks, being an active
community member, giving advice, making friends.
{BSE's step-by-step video training covers this aspect as well}

6. Consistent action - "Just do it!" on a consistent basis
{BSE provides the motivation and insight to help you
be consistent}

There are lessons in this interview for everyone and heaps
of motivating comments and sound advice to start off the
New Year.

Here's some quotable quotes from Alex Mendossan
in the interview:
* A spectacular achievement is always preceded by
unspectacular planning
* Google is not a search engine...Google is a
social equity builder
* Building social equity is a process and an evolution
* A lack of consistency is not a lack of time or a lack
of motivation. It's a lack of expectation.
* When you have social equity with someone, that
person has priority.  That person has a place in your heart,
in your mind, in your business, for you to say yes to.
