Featured RedGage User

Well this email was a surpirse:
"You have been chosen to be one of the sixteen
Featured Users on the RedGage Homepage.
Click the following link to view the homepage:
http://www.redgage.com/"

So if you do click the home page you will see me (ronpass)
featured - just click the username and that takes you
to my profile page and my Collections.

So what did I do to deserve this featured status?

I don't know what specifically won the day, but here
are some of the things I have done:

  • loaded a number of quality photos (that got featured)
  • uploaded links to my blogs posts, Squidoo lenses and articles
  • created RedGage blog posts to feature some of my poetry
  • developed 5 Collections to categorize my content
  • provided quality comments on others' content
  • developed and uploaded substantial resources to help Redgage users
  • made comprehensive submissions to RedGage admin re site improvements
The effect:

Well being a featured Redgage user has bought extra traffic to my
blog and Squidoo lenses and increased my ratings for the August
competition and prizes
- here's hoping!

Squidoo: you can make a difference

Squidoo provides the opportunity to promote your favorite charity.

You can build a lens promoting the charity, encourage charity
members to create their own Squidoo lenses about the
organization or work with the charity over time to
help them to become recognized by Squidoo.

If you take this latter course the charity will be able to receive
donations via Paypal from Squidoo members and Squidoo itself.

Recently I was inspired by the charitable work of Sarah Garnett who
established the Footpath Library in Sydney. Her growing organization
provides books (mainly new) to the homeless and the disadvantaged
in hostels.

The organization now supplies over 1,000 books per week to people
in the streets and to libraries in hostels.

This story is incredibly inspiring so I just had to create a Squidoo
lens to share it:

How to develop your social network on Redgage

Redgage is not just a social bookmarking site for
uploading photos, links and videos. It is very much
a social networking site. The richness of the online
content is more than matched by the richness and
diversity of the network.

RedGage facilitates the building of your social network
through the add a friend button, the ability to store content
in Collections and the capacity to develop a comprehensive
profile.

Top Web 2.0 experts, like Mari Smith and Percy Belcher,
stress the importance of transparency on social networks.
Your RedGage profile page enables you to share a
lot of your self - your work, education, history, interests,
passions and the things you like. Additionally, you can add
web links to your blogs, Squidoo lenses and other sites.

Your Collections, in turn, provide insight into your passions,
preferences, hobbies and online goals.

By sharing something of yourself through your profile and
Collections, you enable others to identify common areas
of interest and connect with you.

RedGage can thus help you brand yourself - to show
something of who you are, what you believe in.

As Mari Smith argues, authenticity and transparency
enable others to relate to your humanness and to build
trust and rapport.

Adding genuine and transparent comments
to others' content helps to build on that rapport and
trust and establish a lasting connection.

Social networks such as RedGage are not just information
exchange centres - they are very much centers of
human connection. By sharing something of yourself,
you invite the other person to reciprocate and so
a genuine relationship can develop.

As you explore the RedGage site, you will find heaps
of Giant Squids and a host of excellent writers
from sites such as eHow.com, Gather.com, Scribd.com
and Associated Content. You will encounter photographers
ranging from the amateur who just loves taking photos
to the professional engaged in glamor photography.

RedGage enables the creation and sharing of all forms
of creative expression including art, photography or
writing.

So why not share and connect on RedGage and enrich
your life? Create a revealing profile, build your Collections,
add friends and make quality comments on Redgage content.
You will be amazed at how many people from diverse parts
of the world share your interests.

Earn money with RedGage - a review

Well I joined RedGage about a month ago and I am now
enjoying the fruits of my efforts.

I've made $83 to date just from uploading some of my
online content (a miniscule fraction - about .1%).

There are three ways to earn on RedGage as I explain
in this video:

I like the fact that you get paid for your backlinks
that you create on RedGage - much better than having
to pay for them (...and some of mine have ended up on
page 1 of Google results!).

I've created a Squidoo lens that provides hints,
tips, tutorials and videos on how to earn money on
Redgage:
http://www.squidoo.com/redgage-money

RedGage enables you to upload videos, photos,
links, blog posts and documents. Here's a Squidoo
lens I've created to help people access
RedGage's superb tutorials:
http://www.squidoo.com/redgagetutorials

I particularly like the ability to create links
to my
Squidoo lenses and then to store
these individual posts in RedGage Collections
so that visitors can access my lens ring on a particular
topic. Here's an example relating to Tennis:
Inner Game of Tennis

Of course, the other free benefits I get are sales of
my Squidoo Marketing e-book, new subscribers to my
ezine and potential affiliate sales.

Well, RedGage is a fun, FREE way to promote your Squidoo
lenses and blog posts as well as your photos and videos.

You can join up through this link (takes you to a
Popup registration form):

Green Monsters Invade Squidoo

No, not really, there are no Monsters at Squidoo.

Squidoo is currently experimenting with different
forms of advertising to increase revenues for charity
and Squidoo Lensmasters. Obviously, the current
economic recession is biting into revenues everywhere.

Squidoo, as usual, is being proactive about the current
state of the economy.

So you may have noticed green in-line hyperlinks
on your Squidoo lenses. You will also notice larger
banners at the top of each lens.

Squidoo explains their current advertising experiment
in the following Squid blog post:
http://bit.ly/vftRZ

Of course, if you give all your direct Squidoo revenue
(from Squidoo ads on your lenses) to charity, you can
opt out of the banner ads and green in-line ads
(but not the Google ads).

Squidoo Policy changes: check your lenses NOW!

Squidoo has made some major Policy Changes!!

You have until mid-July to get your lenses in
order or they may be locked or deleted.

Key areas of change:

#1 No Spam
#2 No X-Rated or Porn
#3 No junk topics
#4 A new limit on "overly promotional lenses"
#5 Plagiarism takedown

You may think you know what these mean, but check
this out closely. "Junk Topics" may include any lens on
"weight loss" for example.

Let's help Squidoo achieve these goals:

"We're going to double down our efforts to help you
make good stuff, via education tools, newbie programs,
an ever-growing Giant Squids program, and constantly
developing valuable new publishing features.

At the same time, we're making the not so good stuff
a little harder to create. And the bad stuff, the really
useless, really wasteful pages, and especially harmful
pages, those don't stand a chance here."

ACT NOW, read the guidelines, check your lenses
and take action where appropriate. If you need to
export your lens content to another site, here's
how:
Giant Squid, PotPieGirl, has produced a number of great
posts to help clarify the policy and its implications - take
her advice:

Explanation of Squidoo Policy Changes

Should Affiliate Marketers Leave Squidoo?
(...the answer is NO!)

These are significant policy changes - for you own
welfare and for the good of the Squidoo community,
please check out your lenses.
